three, last night's affairs.
"Hahaha, man, you're going to bore a hole into her face if you keep staring!" A soldier patted Floch's back roughly as an introduction. He giggled as he stared in [Reader]'s direction. "Men like us have to know that she and we are in different worlds."
The soldier settled down on the empty seat beside him and placed his food tray with a messy flop.
"She's related to the Founder— the man who's leading this group! She might as well be royalty in our eyes." The soldier stuffed a spoonful of rice into his mouth. "And don't forget she's the Beast's sister. She's too powerful already. Such a shame 'cus she's so hot."
Floch's mouth twitched. "Shut the fuck up and focus on our mission."
"Dude—" the soldier paused midway through his next bite to stare at Floch— "We're literally having lunch."
"How can we be rosy when we still have an ongoing war?" Floch gave a firm expression and collected his food tray, his fingers pale where he clutched the plastic.
"Dang... Fuck it up then."
There's a war to worry about.
Stop. It.

Throughout the day you had found it difficult to not divert your attention toward him. Whether it be secret glances as you clutched the gemstone hanging from your neck, or thinking about him and what had transpired the night before... it had all bloomed too fast on your head for your liking— taking too much space and giving little time for you to dwell over it.
Memoirs of the night prior were still present, and you were certain that you could still feel his touch where it burned from when his fingers traced your nape as he fastened the necklace. It all seemed to linger for longer than you thought fair, as you were certain that he hadn't spared you a glance the whole day.
"[Reader]!"
A thrill of excitement coursed through you at the thought of him being the one calling out to you, but it quickly died the more you considered it. As if he would ever use your name.
You turned around to notice Zeke walking to you, an animative jog to his step. This was going to be tiring.
"Hey, where have you been these past few days? I haven't seen you around in a while."
"In my room. I'm always there." You stopped the tremble of your voice, knowing that if you got into it now there would be no way to stop the emotion from swelling. You sighed instead. "And you've been preparing for war so I doubt you have much free time anyway."
His gray eyes scanned yours. Zeke didn't need long to know what was coursing through your mind. "You're right," he agreed. "Don't stay around for too long. Don't loiter around the place aimlessly. Who knows what might happen."
Not this again. "Yes, yes, I know."
"Did you get my letter?" He perked up as he watched you nod, then his expression tumbled. "Then why didn't you write me back? I was waiting for your reply all these days, you know."
"We see each other nearly every day."
"Yeah, but not recently. And it's still fun to write. It makes us human, it brings us closer. And it's also fun."
He takes your silence as a response, probably deciding that his words came off as scolding. As he studies your reaction to deduct if you will ever write back, his eyes don't fail to pick up the blue peeking out of your button-up. His attention on your neck makes you itch and you have to fight back the urge to hide the necklace.
