Cory Matthews sighed.
"I'm sorry Riley but there's really nothing else I can do. I've already spoken with the principal and he refuses to speak about the matter. You should stop investigating and give Lucas time so he can recover then tell you. Whatever happened I'm sure is extremely serious and private." he explained calmly. He placed a hand on Riley's shoulder but she shrugged it away.
"I'm just really concerned about him..."
"I know you are but Riley what you're doing is probably stressing him out more. He already has enough pressure."
"Are you sure the principal didn't tell you anything else? Anything at all about Lucas?"
Her dad thought about it for a few seconds before replying.
"No, nothing at all."
"Alright, thanks anyways dad."
Riley stood up and walked to her room, sulking as she did. She laid down on her bed and took out her phone, calling Maya and informing her about what her dad just told her.
"Ugh, it's like we've been blocked out of his life." said Maya. Riley rubbed her forehead with the palm of her hand.
"I know! First he avoids us and next he tells the principal to shut his mouth!" her voice raised as she spoke with fury. On the other end of the line, Maya remained silent, letting Riley calm down.
"I'm sorry to say this but your dad is right, we should really stop investigating Ranger Rick as much as we want to. Look, I know you, Riley, and you will definitely ignore our pleas to stop looking but-"
Maya sighed.
"He's dangerous, Riley. Stay away from him."
Riley was furious.
"Dangerous? He's broken! How could you even say that about your best friend? He's obviously been through a lot and we should be stepping up and helping him! I don't care that he smacked me on the arm yesterday and had a knife with him, I want to help him."
They remained silent for a few moments and Riley steadied herself again.
"Can you come to my house please?" asked Riley.
"What now?"
"Duh."
"I can't, I promised to help my mom in the kitchen, one of the staff members called in sick today."
"Argh!" Riley howled before cutting the line. Her heart was pounding and her forehead was heating up from all the rubbing she did. Riley slammed her phone down beside her on the bed and closed her eyes, eventually drowsing off into a deep sleep.

Riley was awoken by the sound of her phone buzzing under her hand. She opened one of her eyes and flipped the phone over so she could see the screen.
Her mouth dropped wide open and she pressed the button to answer, placed the phone against her ear and sat up straight as if she was on fast forward.
"Lucas!"
There was someone on the other end who was breathing hastily.
"R-Riley?" Lucas replied in an unnaturally raspy and quiet voice. He sounded distinctly exhausted, almost like he just ran a marathon. Riley could hear a few voices in the background but she ignored them, she couldn't believe she was actually talking to Lucas.
"Where are you Lucas? Tell me what's going on please-!"
"I'm sorry about yesterday, I didn't mean to frighten you guys like that. You all looked so scared of me I had to run." he ignored her previous question.
"It's okay but please-!"
"Riley, I want you to do me a favor. Meet me in the Svorski's Bakery tomorrow at six thirty and don't bring or tell anyone. Do you understand?"
"Y-Yes...Lucas-"
"Look, I have to go. I can't talk to you very long. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow."
He hung up the call immediately.
Riley's heart was pounding frantically once again. She dropped her phone onto her lap and buried a smile into her hands. She was ecstatic however, she couldn't help feeling deep within her about what Maya had said. It was true he pulled out a knife on them yesterday, but would he do it again?

Here's another chapter! I'm sorry if it's really bad but I rushed it a lot since I was so eager to write it and I had to do my homework so I didn't have time to proof read it.
