"Come on Riley! There's nothing we can do!"

Maya was tugging on Riley's arm, hoping she would get her butt off her seat. She was froze on the spot, staring mindlessly at Lucas who was being forced out of the court.

"...Just let me see her!" she heard him cry as he disappeared around the corner.

Maya finally managed to force her up with the help of Farkle giving a hard push towards her. Maya led her out of the room. Everyone in the jury had about made their exit besides them.

As soon as Riley's feet touched the other side of the doorframe, she broke down in tears, sliding down against the wall until she was huddled on the floor with her knees tucked into her chest and her head buried between them.

"We were supposed to win! We were supposed to win!" she screamed over and over again.

Farkle bent over to give her a short hug. He too was bawling. Maya, on the other hand, was too dazed to realize what had happened.

Lucas lost the case, Lucas is going to prison, she kept thinking in her head, wishing hopefully that these words would hit her with realization soon. She had cried so many times that she was probably just too tired of it. Not a single wave of sadness was washing over her, she was simply just too stunned.

Maya's thoughts were interrupted when she noticed movement beside her. Whilst she was staring at the wall in front of her, Riley had stood up as well as Farkle. She couldn't help but note the sudden look of fury on Riley's face despite the millions of tears still flowing down her cheeks. Riley stomped past her, her eyes focused on a specific target. Maya spun around and she felt her eyes widen and her stomach twist in both anger and worry.

Riley was stalking towards Khlestakov.

His disgusting shaven face came into view. The sound of his leather shoes made a rhythmic beat every time he took a step. Just his presence alone was enough to get under their skin.

Riley saw Khlestakov dart a quick glance to her and immediately, he began to pick up his pace. What a coward. This scene would've been comedic if there were spectators around who hadn't witnessed the trial: A grown man afraid of an innocent little girl.

"You bastard!" yowled Riley. Her deafening pitch made the hairs on the back of Maya and Farkle's neck stand on end.

Khlestakov stopped to face her, fake determination plastered on his face.
