Jane opened the door, noticing the newest victim typing feverishly. It hurt to see it, every time. Someone trying to save people who were already dead.

"Hey." He jumped, glanced at her, then went back to working. "I'm Jane. You are..?" She waited for an answer. He didn't reply at first. "Luke." He finally replied.

"Well, Luke, My job is to bring food and water to you, and check up on you. You'll get about 3 bathroom breaks a day, if you're lucky, so use them wisely alright?"

"I don't care, alright?" Luke kept on with his work. "I have to... To be happy." Jane raised an eyebrow at that. "All you're doing is writing letters. You can show your feelings all you want."

"If I could, Mr. Strangers head'd be on a stake." Jane walked over next to him, observing what he was writing. It was "happy buddy" letters. That was surprising.

That was why he had to be happy. He was being forced to be a happy buddy. Those were replaced once they found out the true fate of their families. It felt awful, being involved in this.

"You wanna talk?" He didn't reply, giving her the cold shoulder. She put a hand on his shoulder. "Listen. I'll make you and your family as comfortable as I can until you.. Reunite."

She had to force the last words out. It would never come to be. His fate was worse than death. Jane wanted to avoid her own death, if she could, however. That meant hurting others, like Luke.

He paused and glanced at her. "Thank you." He went back to working. Jane walked to a corner guiltily. This man was too thankful. His family was dead, and he was in an inescapable web of lies.

"It's fine." It wasn't fine. It wasn't fine at all.
