Small TW for non-graphic descriptions on stabbing and rot
Introspection on the importance of Malenia's sword to her identity.------------------------------------------------
The blade had always been a part of her.
Wars and battles had been fought and won, the undefeated blade earning her title through the blood that stained the golden sword. The self proclaimed Golden Lord had been child's play. She had fought the Starscourge himself and come out on top, a feat not even the stars themselves could achieve.
Now, as the Blade of Miquella she fought once more, protecting her brother's resting place with everything she had. The rot that festered just beneath her skin did not affect the prowess of the blade. Nothing could. Lowly tarnished tried and failed to disturb Miquella's slumber, and each time they met a bloody end.
Until, that is, one didn't.
Though blind, for rot had taken over her eyes, the lack of impact under her sword had nothing to do with the inability to see, no.
Someone was besting her.
The Blade of Miquella felt anger and panic rush forth from her previous calm and cocky demeanour. Her clothes burned away and her skin rotted as the Scarlet Aeona bloomed once more. Still, her blade remained untainted by the cancerous curse she possessed.
For hours, their swords clashed, metal slamming against metal until one would eventually hit skin- her skin. She rose in the air before letting loose a flurry of wild strikes, yet still not a hit landed. She cast and summoned incantations to briefly come forth and attack with her, yet still not a hit landed. She tried once more to catch her opponent in her scarlet bloom, desperate to bring him down with her if it meant destroying herself. Yet still, no hit landed.
It was a torturous cycle repeated many times over until there was a deafening clash and an unmistakable snap.
Her blade had broken.
Pure agony sunk into her stomach alongside the opposing sword, staining the picturesque scene of white flowers amongst the Haligtree's roots with her blood and rot.
Malenia had lost.
"Oh Miquella, oh, dearest Miquella... m-my brother..."
Malenia held a golden hand out, reaching for the roots where he slept.
"I'm sorry.. I've finally met my match..."
