Chapter 23 - Grief

An announcement came over the school tannoy the very next morning.

"Attention all students. Unfortunately, a boy has passed away of the premises. He is known as Kai Inferno. The circumstances of his death are unknown to staff but they are going to look into it as Mr Inferno was perfectly healthy a few hours prior to his body being discovered by Mr Harlem Tobias. Classes for today have been cancelled. Take this day to rest."

A day of mourning. Grey and red banners have been hung around the school to represent the loss of Kai. Some care more than others but... Are the teachers really looking into it? Maybe we could... Listen into the staff room discussion?

Alessandra searched through her drawer, looking for her only gift from her deceased mum. She found something wrapped up in cloth and kept it on her, knowing it would keep her safe.

"Allie? You in there?" Calypso asked, knocking on the door.

Alessandra sighed, grabbing her armour and opening the door. "Hey,"

"What's the armour for?" Calypso raised a brow.

"You can guess," She sighed, showing him the slip of paper she was planning to leave Hades door, reading 'Meet at the dueling grounds ASAP.'

Calypso froze, "No. You- You can't! We just lost somebody-"

"Calypso. I'm a vampire. Hades is going to be taken care of. For good," Alessandra hissed.

"But-" Calypso stopped himself,"Fine.."

"You can watch if that would make you feel better," Alessandra sighed, walking towards Hades's dorm.

Calypso shook his head. He didn't know what to do. He wanted to help and protect Alessandra but he knew she was strong on her own. Alessandra slipped it under Hades dorm and marched to the arena.

"Oh, fuck it!" Calypso muttered, hurrying outside.

Circe was invisible in her hammock, picking at a band-aid. She'd heard the whole fight. Why weren't any of the teachers doing anything about Hades?! E.PR was in the main room, cursing at himself. He had let a student die. He was programmed to let him die!

Ryland was in his room, trying to ignore everything going on around him while Valkyrie was hiding in her room under a fluffy blanket. She didn't want to remember the events of the night previously.

"Valkyrie? Can I come in?" Charlotte asked from the entrance to the room.

"Yes.." She mumbled.

"Are you okay?" Charlotte asked,"I know we both witnessed... The event."

"I'm fine "Valkyrie shook her head, rubbing her eyes.

Charlotte looked, uneasily, around,"It's kind of scary living with a murderer."

"Can I... Have a hug?" Valkyrie asked.

Charlotte nodded and hugged Valkyrie,"It'll be okay..."

"No it won't!"

Charlotte sighed. "Yeah, I know."

"I couldn't save him." Valkyrie bit her lip.

"Neither could I, and tried." She spoke sadly,"Hades is the WORST."

"Hey." Cameron leaned against the doorframe,"Can I... Come in?"

"Uh... sure. guess." Charlotte nodded.
