"Man the starboard side, Jakob!" Yelled a voice I instantly recognized as my father's. I quickly made my way over to help my mother, who was removing the tangled and damaged rigging.

We were caught in the middle of a major storm and we needed all hands on deck to keep the ship upright and steady, it was getting dangerously close to tipping due to the weather, but granted, 'all hands on deck' was pretty much me and my mother while my father steered us the best he could.

"Dump the crates and ropes! We need to keep the ship stable!" my mother yelled in my direction and I didn't hestitate to start tossing old or useless luggage overboard, along with the damaged parts or ropes my mother can recover.

Me, my mother, Linda, and my father, Bjorn, had been travelling together since I was twelve, exploring and collecting all sorts of artefacts, materials and items from all sorts of lands and islands.

We tend to live on the ship most of the time but also often camped on the islands we visit to heighten our survivalist skills.

The process was a cycle of dump, collect, dump, collect until most of the expendable belongings and/or things of the sort were all overboard, but the storm still continued to rage on.

The rain was heavy and fast as it showered all over the deck.

My hair stuck to my forehead while my clothes were drenched from top to bottom.

Looking over the ship's edge during the dumping, something in the deep currents of the sea caught my eye, something big, unnaturally big for a shark, dolphin or fish, no, this thing seemed the size of a whale.

I briefly wondered if this was the kind of creature lost sailors claimed to encounter in their stories, but I managed to pull out of my fascination enough to shout-

"Mother! Father! There's something huge in the water, I fear it's a-" I didn't get the chance to finish as a sudden force threw the boat rocking and reeling and I felt myself fly over the rails of the deck and crash into the water below.

I faintly heard my parent's screams of terror before I felt myself slip into unconsciousness.

How was it?
