The evening was gradually approaching, the sky transforming into a canvas of warm hues, casting a gentle glow over the peaceful scene. The still waters of the lake shimmered with the soft glow of the setting sun, mirroring the vibrant tapestry of colours that adorned the heavens. The beauty of the scene unfolded, casting an enchanting spell over the surroundings. The air carried a sense of serenity, as if the world held its breath in awe of the breathtaking scene.

Within the enchanting landscape, a mysterious figure emerged, draped in a flowing cloak of deepest black. The fabric billowed gracefully as he glided over the dew jewelled grass, his steps silent and purposeful. His youthful eyes were watchful over the surroundings, his gaze alight with curiosity. Every evening, like clockwork, he begrudgingly embarked on his "glorious" daily stroll. It was a task he fulfilled with a begrudging sense of obligation and a less-than-enthusiastic heart. He surveyed his surroundings, keenly observing every little movement. His ears attuned to even the faintest of sounds.

And then, there it was-a burst of laughter that danced upon the breeze. Startled, he abruptly halted in his tracks, his body stiffening like a statue frozen in time. His uncovered eye, nestled on the left side of his face, widened into a mesmerising amber hue. Drawing closer, he caught a glimpse of a little girl, her giggles captivating his attention. Quite amazed, he crouched down behind a bush, curiously watching the little one.

It wasn't like he got to see such precious and delicate things around here much.

She looked like a little angel. The air was filled with the delightful melody of her laughter, a symphony of tiny bells chiming and dancing in the breeze. It echoed through the surroundings, infusing the atmosphere with a contagious joy.

Her cherubic countenance radiated innocence and purity, her cheeks adorned with a natural rosy blush. Cascading around her shoulders were locks of rose blond hair, shimmering like spun gold in the sunlight, forming a halo of enchantment. Clad in a puffed floral gown, she resembled a blossoming flower, her vibrant presence adding a touch of magic to the scene.

"A Primrose. A hope. A beginning."

Her every movement was filled with grace and lightness, as if she floated on air. Delicate pink shoes adorned her dainty feet, carrying her with effortless grace as she twirled and danced along the grassy bank. And when her laughter erupted in a toothy giggle, two small gaps revealed the endearing imperfections that made her all the more captivating and full of life.

Cautiously, he sank down behind the bush, hidden from view, his lips gently curling into a faint smile. One side of his face, untouched by the metal mask that concealed the other, revealed a glimmer of warmth and intrigue. His unconcealed eye, like an orb of polished obsidian, shimmered with a mixture of mystery and tenderness.

His curiosity grew as he watched her play, her innocent laughter tugging at his heart. As the sun began its descent, casting a golden glow upon the landscape, his concern, however, flickered like a distant flame. Why was this young girl left unattended by the water's edge? The absence of her parents puzzled him. A sudden surge of responsibility tugged at his heart, compelling him to ensure her safety. He remained concealed, reluctant to be discovered and wary of frightening the little one with his unconventional appearance but his gaze fixed on her, observing every step she took.

With each passing moment, his worry intensified. He noticed her edging closer to the water's edge, a sense of urgency flooding his thoughts. He searched for any sign of her parents, hoping they would appear to keep her safe. However, as she teetered near the water, his anxiety reached its peak.

And then, in an instant, it happened-a resounding splash shattered the tranquillity. Panic surged through his veins as he realised-she had fallen into the water. His thoughts raced, contemplating the best course of action. He listened intently, hoping against hope to hear the calls of concerned parents. The time ticked by,with no sign of any. He knew he couldn't delay any longer. Without wasting a second, he shed his cloak of apprehension and propelled himself into the water.

"How's school today?" He asked, his kind voice reaching her tiny ears.

"It's nice. The teacher told us to write about our vacation," she replied, nibbling on a big bite of the yummy meal.

Her little legs swung back and forth, dangling from the edge of the concert stair. Seated next to her, the figure of her favourite person mimicked her motions, his black robes swaying with her rhythmic swings.

Over the time it had grown into a habit. To meet him by the lake where they first met. To report to him how her day went. He enjoyed every bit of it. For human life was proven to be fascinating in his immortal eyes.

"So, what did you write?" He asked, eyes shining in amusement.

"I wrote about the pretty summer camp in the hills, listening to birds every morning, swimming in the lake, and almost drowning."

She paused, taking another big bite, while he observed her with his usual mild smile. "Ah, and I wrote about being scared, screaming without anyone hearing. I wrote about you saving me, coming out of the water just in time... like a guardian angel."

A soft chuckle responded to her babble. He found her quite adorable and precious. Unlike most other humans he had met, she was pure. Her heart beat for everything soft and beautiful. He wanted to protect her at all costs, a new thought for someone who relished destruction.

Though Gan pretended he didn't notice it, he knew he was slowly succumbing to the darkness, and soon, he and the darkness would be one. He wanted to make sure she would be safe-safe from the world. Safe from the dark. Safe from him.

"Primrose," he called.

Shifting her gaze from the meal box to him, little Ada was met with the most pleasant smile in the world-a special smile, just for her, the smile of the one that considered her guardian angel.

"Yeah?"

"Promise me something."

"Yeah, what?" The little girl was now more attentive to her prospective protector.

"Promise me you'd always be good to your mom and dad. Promise me you'd listen to your Gran." He peered into her tiny blue pools of eyes and smiled one last time. "And promise me you'd never change, no matter what."
