"Your glasses are broken?"

Michael nodded at Alec's question in disbelief when Alec was confused as to why he wasn't wearing glasses at this time, they happened to meet in the hall of the main building. His friend looked flabbergasted, not knowing what to reply.

"Well, I'm going to suffer in the blur of the world for some time to come," Michael said desperately as they walked along.

"Then? Did your father know?"

"What?" The question immediately made Michael turn to Alec. "Are you kidding? He would scold me completely if he found out my glasses were broken! The glasses are still relatively new." Michael tugged at his hair in frustration. "I just said I wanted to wear contact lenses so I didn't wear them," Michael continued quietly.

Alec's eyebrows knit together in pity, he patted Michael on the back encouragingly. "But you don't have contact lenses."

"Precisely."

Alec rolled his eyes for a moment, what did he expect from Michael after all?

"Oh hey, Alec." Mark came from the hallway to the left of them both. He stopped in front of them, smiling at Alec before looking at Michael with a raised eyebrow. "And who is he? Your new friend? Looks familiar, hmm ...."

"Ha-ha, how funny." With a fake, sarcastic laugh Michael rolled his eyes in boredom, he folded his arms across his chest and looked at Mark in annoyance.

Michael pushed Mark's hand that was about to ruffle his messy brown hair, it made Mark smile and shrug his shoulders. "Where are your glasses anyway?" Mark asked curiously, staring at Michael's face so intensely that Michael had to take a few steps back.

"Broken." Alec represented the answer. "You do remember the person who proposed to Mike, don't you? He broke it."

Mark's smile slowly faded, now his forehead furrowed in displeasure. "Why did he do that?" Mark asked Michael again, this time sounding very serious.

The eldest Afton exhaled tiredly. "Just a small, unexpected incident, he didn't actually break my glasses—I startled him myself until he reflexively threw my glasses downstairs," Michael replied quietly, his brows knit together. "Before that Carter bothered me anyway."

"Again," Alec sighed in disbelief.

"Carter never stops bothering Michael because Michael looks geeky!" Simon suddenly came in with his trademark wide grin, and his words made Michael snort. Simon put his arm around Michael's shoulders tightly. "Right, Mike? You know that," he said, slightly intrigued. "At least don't wear oversized clothes every day."

Michael broke free from Simon's embrace. "Oversized clothes are comfortable to wear," Michael sneered a little.

Simon raised his eyebrows and smirked. "But without glasses you don't look too geeky, even cute. Isn't that right, Mark?" Simon said teasingly, elbowing the flustered Mark.

Mark's cheeks seemed to be a little red. "Yes," he answered curtly before looking away. Simon smiled broadly.

Looking at Mark with an incomprehensible look, the Afton once again sighed wearily, deciding not to reply to anything on the topic. "I'll probably help the cafeteria lady to add some more money so I can get my glasses fixed," Michael said desperately.

Alec smiled encouragingly. "You can do it," he said, Michael giving him a small thank you.

"I'd better go to class now," Michael said as he checked the watch on his wrist. "Bye!" he then said goodbye, fixing the sling bag strap on his shoulder first before running away from his three friends.
