It was finally dinner time.
I sat between Fiona and Dad. Fiona sat across from Mom. And Shrek sat across from Dad.
At moments like this, I was grateful I didn't get married, but I hated that I wasn't.
Mom, Fiona, and I were the only ones who were eating the escargot. The room was filled with absolute silence.
Dad was glaring at Shrek the entire time while Shrek sat there nervous and scared.
To a normal person, the amount of silverware would overwhelm anybody. You could see Shrek was getting overwhelmed.
With a shrug, Shrek grabbed one and crunched down. That made everybody look at him.
Fiona and I were taking a sip from our goblets when Fiona burped loudly. She immediately covered her mouth.
"Excuse me," Fiona said before she and Shrek were giggling.
I noticed Mom and Dad share a look between themselves, It was a look of shock at what happened to their youngest.
"Better out than in, I always say, eh, Fiona?" Shrek said.
They were both laughing before they looked over at Mom and Dad. Their laughter shortly died afterward.
"What do you mean, "I'm not on the list"?" Somebody asked from in the kitchen behind Mom, "Don't tell me you don't know who I am."
A donkey busted out of the kitchen doors and chuckled. "What's happening, everybody? Thanks for waiting. You know, I had the hardest time finding this place," the donkey spoke as he took a seat beside Mom.
"No! No! Bad Donkey! Bad! Down!" Dad started shouting at the donkey as if it were a dog.
"No, no, no, Dad! It's all right. It's all right. He's with us," Fiona started explaining, "He helped rescue me from the dragon."
I was one of the few people that the dragon that was guarding Fiona's tower, had a name. I just never really shared that information with people.
"Yup, that's me: The noble steed," the donkey said matter-of-factly. The donkey looked towards the kitchen, "Hey, waiter! How about a bowl for the steed?"
Dad looked completely astounded by what was happening in his castle.
"Dad looks more shocked and mad than he has ever looked when we tried having parties at the castle," I whispered to Fiona.
Fiona and I laughed as she nodded.
The waiter came around with finger bowls and we all started dipping our hands into them. Well, except for Shrek. He had grabbed a spoon and took a sip.
"Um, Shrek?" Fiona grabbed his attention.
"Yeah? Oh, sorry," Shrek quickly apologized, before looking over at Mom, "Great soup, Mrs. Q." He chuckled before rubbing his stomach.
"No, no, darling," Fiona said before showing Shrek.
Shrek nervously chuckled. Mom grabbed her napkin and wiped her hands dry.
"So, Fiona, tell us about where you live," Mom started the conversation.
"Well," Fiona looked over at Shrek before looking at Mom, "Shrek owns his own land."
I knew this was going to be an absolute disaster because Dad wasn't going to be able to close his mouth about his opinions.
Fiona nervously chuckled, "Don't you, honey?"
Shrek nodded, "Oh, yes! It's in an enchanted forest, abundant in squirrels and cute little duckies and..."
"What?!" The donkey interrupted before laughing hysterically, "I know you ain't talking about the swamp."
