Bring me out
Come and find me in the dark now
Everyday by myself I'm breaking down
I don't wanna fight alone anymore
Bring me out
From the prison of my own pride
My God
I need a hope I can't deny
In the end I'm realizing I was never meant to fight on my own
On My Own - Ashes Remain•••
"You betrayed us, Azrael.. I thought I could trust you.. But I suppose all angels need someone to follow. And you followed Lucifer.. For your own safety, don't return.. Ever."
Those were the last words Azrael ever heard from God. As the two archs were lead out the gates of Heaven by Michael, they tried to convince Michael not to do this.
"Trust me. It hurts me more than it does you to do this. Lucifer, you let the Mark change you, and you corrupted your own brother. Azrael.. We honestly thought you were different."
A portal to Earth was opened, followed by two other portals. Quickly both Archangels were thrown through the portal to Earth. The fire caught quickly, spreading to their wings. The fall felt like it was endless and the agonizing pain of the sensitive feathers burning wasn't helping. Eventually the two hit the other portals and were separated.
Blinking. A bright light.. Azrael scanned his surroundings cautiously. What was this place?"Is that an angel?"
"Is it okay?"He could hear unfamiliar voices. Slowly the angel stood, blade in hand.
"Hey, calm down kid."
Quickly Azrael turned to face a reaper, pointing the blade at it in alarm. The Reaper cautiously touched the blade, lowering it. "Relax kid. I'm not here to hurt ya. I'm the Grim Reaper. The leader around here."
"I'm the Archangel Azrael.." Slowly the angel began to calm down. "Where am I?"
"Welcome to the Death Realm, Azrael."Over time, the Reapers' began to see Azrael as one of them. The Grim Reaper took in the Angel, and Azrael eventually became the Leader of the Death Realm. Azrael learned to trust the species and for once, he felt accepted.
But everything changed once humanity started to thrive.Resentment started to build in Azrael. He hated the very existence of humans. Why were they so special? Because they were God's creation, made to be controlled like pieces on a chess board? Well. Two could play at that game.
In a fit of driven rage, Azrael used the power he was created with; mind control. He started with the Grim Reaper, then flew high above the Death Realm. In second the entire realm was under his control.
"Forget everything you know about your creation. I am your God. I am your Leader. For I am Archangel Azrael, The Angel of Death."
The Archangel then let go of them, immediately falling out of the sky and falling unconscious. Several days later, Azrael woke up to the concerned gaze of the Grim Reaper.
"About time you woke up. You've been out for a couple days now."
"What.... What happened?" Azrael asked in a confused daze.
"Not sure. You fell out of the sky and hit the ground pretty hard. One of your wings was broken."
Azrael glanced at his six wings, noticing that one of them was in fact wrapped tightly in bandages. "Oh.."
Azrael slowly got up and turned to the Reaper. "Y'know.. I trust you with my life.. Would you ever try to hurt me..?"
"Of course not." The Reaper seemed confused by the random question.
Suddenly Azrael took out his blade and cut open his arm, quickly handing the blade to the reaper. Reaper quickly caught on and copied Azrael. Azrael grabbed onto Reaper's arm. The Angel's Grace and the Reaper's Grace mixed and two marks appeared on both of them, binding them to each other. The two were now connected at the Grace. If one died, the other would follow. They also shared powers. However, they shared something else. Over time, Reaper began to resent humanity. But then all of a sudden, he developed a sadistic side. He also began to believe angels and reapers were superior to everything. Meanwhile Azrael became distant and cold. He avoided Earth and occasionally the Death Realm, turning to Hell instead.
One day as he was watching a pack of wild hellhounds, he was jumped by the Knights of Hell and taken prisoner. They left him in the dungeon while they decided what to do with him. Eventually he was taken to their King.
As the Knights dragged him in, he momentarily froze in shock. Wait a second... Was That.... Lucifer?
"..Lucifer...?"
A moment of silence passed.
"Azrael?!" Lucifer immediately glared down the Knights. "Let. Him. Go. Now."
Reluctantly, the Knights unchained the archangel.
Immediately Lucifer went up and hugged the younger arch, broken wings wrapped around him protectively. "Where've you been? I thought they killed you."
"They locked me in the death realm. Luckily the Reapers took me in.."
Lucifer growled softly and pulled him closer. "You're staying with me. I don't trust that place. Besides, I'm the King here. You'll be safe here."
Azrael sighed. "Lucifer. I'm their leader. They need me.."
"You can do that from Hell."
"Lucifer."
"Just stay with me Azrael.. I can't lose you again.."".. Okay."
The two brothers ruled over Hell, and in time, Azrael became the leader of Hell's Army. He helped pick, and trained, the Knights of Hell.
Eventually Azrael did go back to the Death Realm, despite Lucifer's complaining. Under Azrael's rule, that realm thrived as well. However, things weren't always so perfect. A deal was made between the two brothers. Should Lucifer die, the throne would go to Azrael instead of Lucifer's oldest offspring.
So when Lucifer was locked away in the cage, Azrael took over Hell.
But now that the cage is open, everything is as it was.
Lucifer as King and Azrael as the Leader of the Army.
