Fly a Kite

"Did he make it?"

It was something that honestly worried Serenity the day Sirius left him, yet in her mind, there was no way through the veil that would result in a person living, yet if he got to the other side, there was no way of him getting in touch with any of them after going through.

"Right?"

Then, a misty day came around, one that she wouldn't exactly call a good day for going out to the park, yet Serenity insisted that they go. She wanted, apparently, too—

"I still don't get her, but Sarah said it will take time and patience."

And she was the one taking her. Sort of, as Sarah did have to drive them, but she was the one in charge of Peggy, acting like the adult in that situation for her younger sibling, putting forth the caveat of there being something she wouldn't understand. "I got that."

They sat on the bench in one of London's parks, eating ice cream, when Peggy said. "Look!"

"Look at what?" Serenity frowned, but then—

A small boy who looked to also be in his preteens like Peggy was hurrying through the park, carrying a kite that looked like the kite from the Mary Poppins movie, which would draw Peggy's attention. However, why anybody would want to patch a kite like that, let alone not get a new kite, she didn't know. The boy was smiling, his gray eyes twinkling as locks of black hair fell around his ears.

He turned back to look at—

"Regulus! You're almost fifteen now! Don't run like that!"

Serenity's mouth opened slightly, seeing Sirius there, following behind them, that obnoxious smirk on his face. "What?" And, "Okay, he's older than I thought."

"Don't. Peggy, don't..."

Except, Peggy was gone before Sarah could tell her not to interact with the two Wizards. She was over there, her eyes on that horrid green kite with its newspaper patches that thankfully didn't seem to use Wizarding newspapers, but she giggled. "That's from the Mary Poppins movie."

"Oh! You've seen it?" Regulus asked. Sirius cleared his voice. "My older brother showed me that movie. It was my first..." He paused, almost as if realizing he'd practically said Muggle but then said. "Movie. They're a lot of fun, aren't they? Movies."

"Yup. Have you been to an amusement park?"

And there she was, her jaw still dropped as Sirius stood there smiling, no explanation whatsoever regarding how he was back here so that Peggy could interact with Regulus, who was now her favorite Harry Potter character simply because he was autistic. Regulus tilted his head. "No. Are they fun?"

"Lots."

"Ready to fly that kite, Regulus?" called out someone else.

"I'm sure he is, Uncle Alphard. He's been dying to fly that ugly, Slytherin green..."

"It's not ugly. And it might be green, but it's not Slytherin green. I think."

"Wow." Serenity said.

"Young ladies?"

She and Sarah nearly jumped out of their skins, turning to look at someone who must be another Black from the black hair and dark eyes just like that Uncle Alphard. Sarah stared. "Yes, sir?"

"If you ever need help, the Black family knows how to pay their debts. Though..." the man looked up, smiling. "Perhaps your actions led to creating a different world or a joined world for all of us? Who knows. Sometimes, magic can't be explained."

"Um, and you are?"

"Orion Black. And my father sends his thanks as well, but today is for me to get to be a father without all those stuffy rules, right? And to see both my boys smiling, particularly the youngest. So thank you."

And he walked over as Peggy continued chatting away to Regulus about all of her favorite things. Serenity stared. "Well, this is weird."

"So is a canon character falling into your room. Remember?"

"Well, none of the fanfic I've read with that trope turned out this way!"

"That..." Sarah sighed. "I think it was good for us as well. You and Peggy, I mean."

"Yeah. I'm thankful to Sirius as well. And I guess Regulus, even though he didn't directly affect our family."

"This is still so weird."

"I know."

"Let's not tell mom unless we have to?"

"Agreed."
