"Jiwon dear, wake up. It's morning already and you have school today", her mom's voice echoed through her eardrums. Her body jolted up from the bed as soon as she heard the voice. It was like a magic spell that woke her up from her beautiful dream.
She groaned as she felt her heartbeat increased because of the sudden rise. She blinked her eyes several times and shook her head.
Slowly, Jiwon got off the bed and did her morning routine. She wore her school uniform neatly and walked towards the big mirror inside the room.
Jiwon sighed. No matter what she wore, she had no confidence at all.
Do I look pretty today?
What others will think of me?
Are they staring at me cause I'm ugly?
Those thoughts made her confidence faded away day by day. She couldn't help to think like that because of an incident. It changed her persepective towards herself.
Eventually, she shrugged it away and exited her room, bringing her school bag along with her.
As soon as Jiwon setted her right foot inside the kitchen, she could smell a delicious aroma that was coming through her nostrils, making her stomach growled because of the emptiness.
Her family members were already there so Jiwon quickly sat across her parents which was on Jaewon's right side. She gave them a bright smile, hiding all her problems away.
It was a normal morning.
🏫🏫🏫
Jiwon and Jaewon arrived at the school early.
She was relieved that there was no one inside the classroom yet except her and Jaewon. She wanted to stay low this year as it was her last year in middle school.
Jiwon wanted to finish it with peace and avoided problems.
She sat on her seat and plugged in earphone into her ears. Jiwon didn't turned on any music because it was just an act so that no one would bother her.
She opened a book and read it.
One by one, her classmates came in. It was loud.
Suddenly, Jaewon was standing in front of her. Realizing his presence, Jiwon lifted up her head. She stared at him.
"Are you still not getting along with her?", Jaewon asked. His eyes directed to the door at the back of the classroom.
Jiwon turned around just to see Hanah had entered the classroom. Jiwon fell into silence as she didn't know how to answer the question.
"I hope we could", it escaped her mouth unknowingly as she wore a sad expression on her face. It had been a week already and they still didn't even say hello when they crossed path.
It was hurt for Jiwon to see her closest friend smiled and acted normally around others but gave her a cold shoulder whenevers she tried to talk things out. She felt her heart stinged in pain.
Jiwon was still looking at her when Hanah made an eye contact with her. Jiwon gave her an awkward smile but Hanah diverted her eyes from Jiwon, ignoring her.
It was a misunderstanding.
~~~
"You go first. I need to meet the teacher for a moment", Jiwon said to Hanah as they just went out of their classroom. It was recess time.
Jaewon already had rushed out from the class as he promised his friends to play football
"Hurry up and settle your business fast. I don't want to eat alone", Hanah said while pouting. She didn't like to be alone at inside the crowds.
"Arraseo", Jiwon smiled and she waved her hands before walking away from Hanah. Hanah let out a sigh as Jiwon's figure disappeared from her sight.
'I need to be brave', she clentched her fists to gave herself some strength. She was determined.
She walked to the cafeteria that was now filled by the other students who were queueing up in a line to grab their meal. The students chattered loudly.
Hanah successfully took her food after queueing up for about five minutes. She was looking for empty seats cause she wanted to reserve on of it for Jiwon. Hanah spotted two empty seats which was lucky of her.
She grinned and immediately went to the seats.
Hanah put the meal into her mouth and munched it slowly because she was waiting for Jiwon.
But, her wait was in vain as Jiwon never showed up until she finished her food. The cafeteria started to become empty as the students left after finishing thei food.
Hanah was frowning and turned her head around to look at the entrance but she couldn't see any traces of Jiwon. She wanted to wait more but the recess was almost over.
Hanah got up from the seat and brought her tray.
...
She walked along the hallway while searching for Jiwon but there was still no view of her. What happened and where she was? It wasn't like her to break the promise for no reason.
But then, her eyes caught a familiar figure not too far from her.
Hanah narrowed her eyes to focus on it.
Jiwon was standing outside their classroom with a bread in her hand as she was chatting with two girls. She was chuckling and smiling.
