I hate my life.
I hate my stupid, fucking life.
"Come on, Junkyu!" Yedam snaps for the third time.
Too tired to respond, I flop down on the hardwood floor of the practice rooms, my sweat soaking into the floor slowly. I mumble something so quietly it's inaudible, and turn my head so my cheek is pressed against the wood.
What am I even doing? I wonder to myself.
"Should we do it again?" Jihoon asks the group.
Oh no, I think. For the love of god, please no.
"Let's do one more run through," Yedam suggests. I know no matter how much everyone else complains, he's not going to change his mind. So I pull myself up from the floor, take off my denim jacket, and sigh, getting ready to practice our new song again.
We're due to have a comeback tomorrow, and somehow we're still completely unprepared. So what if we've had almost a year to get ready for it? We're not even close to having it perfected. If it was up to me, I'd put the comeback off another year. Maybe even two.
We're that unprepared.
As Yedam goes to put the music on, Mashiho wanders over to me. "Hey," he says softly. "Y-you look really tired."
No matter how tired I might be, just the sight of Mashiho cheers me up. "I'm tired," I say. "But seeing yo-"
I suddenly realize how cheesy that sounds, and I immediately take it back. "Nevermind," I sigh. "Make sure you get some rest tonight for tomorrow."
"You too," he replies. "But Hyung?"
"Yeah?" I ask.
"Do- do you think everything will be alright with this comeback?" he asks. "I-I don't know. I've been feeling really tired lately, and I haven't been sleeping well, probably from stress. A-and everything feels blurry."
"Are you okay?" I ask him suddenly. "That doesn't sound good. Maybe you should tell Hyunsuk."
Before he can reply, Yedam says something from across the room, probably cueing the music. I find my place, between Jeongwoo and Yoshi, right in the center, and with a little pang of disappointment, I watch Mashiho wander over to his spot between Yedam and Asahi, in the back.
The final practice goes awfully. Everyone keeps colliding with each other, the singing is unstable, and the formation keeps getting messed up. Even Mashiho, who's usually the least clumsy, collides with me once and Jihoon twice. For my part, I crash into Yoshi and Hyunsuk during the most hectic part of the choreography.
By the time the song manages to end, after what feels like hours, we all collapse on the floor- which is the final move of the choreography. I'm thankful for once that we incorporated this move in because sometimes it feels like the only doable move.
"That was... interesting," Jihoon comments after the song ends.
"Good work, guys," Hyunsuk says, pulling Jihoon aside to talk to him.
Everyone leaves the room one by one, leaving Mashiho and I behind. I tell him "good work" and leave the room, closing the door behind me.
Back in the vans, one of our managers drives me, Hyunsuk, Asahi, Jihoon, Junghwan, and Jaehyuk back to our dorms. Out of the corner of my eye, I can see Mashiho, Yoshi, Haruto, Jeongwoo, Doyoung, and Yedam heading back to their dorm.
I close my eyes and try in vain to get some sleep, but obviously, I can't. I'm too busy worrying about tomorrow, for the comeback, for our members, what will happen if we fail.
Not if. When.
"What do you think will happen tomorrow?" Hyunsuk asks.
Nobody replies. "I think we'll fail," I sigh.
"Don't be so negative," Jihoon says.
I always get stuck in arguments between Jihoon and Hyunsuk, and they're usually on the same side and I'm against them. Nobody else in the car is watching us- Junghwan is fast asleep (or on his phone, I can't tell), and Asahi and Jaehyuk are too busy chatting away in the backseats.
Of course they're in love.
I've known for a couple of months that Jaehyuk and Asahi have been in love ever since Treasure Box. Of course, they didn't share their feelings until way after debut, so it kind of left everyone else (me included) who knew in an awkward spot. But at some point they just decided to go for it and confessed their feelings, and it became pretty clear they were totally in love with each other.
We arrive at the dorms after some time, and I run for my room and crash on my bed, not bothering to shower or wipe off the sweat on my face. I need sleep.
Asahi comes into the room. We share a room, and it's practically divided down the middle by some kind of invisible line.
Asahi's half is almost as organized as Mashiho's room: everything in place, neat, clean, not a speck of dust, except for the messy bed and covers because we had no time this morning.
In contrast, my half is messy; I won't even go into details, but it's an absolute mess. Mashiho would call it a disaster zone.
The nice thing about rooming with Asahi is that we don't usually talk too late into the night. Or talk in general. He's usually playing music with headphones in, and I'm lying on my bed sleeping.
"Aren't you gonna shower, Hyung?" he asks, bustling around his half of the room and looking for something.
"I'm too tired," I say. "But I probably should."
Asahi picks his phone up and lies down on his bed, adjusting a photo of him and Jaehyuk on his nightstand. Sighing, I stand up and head for the bathrooms to call dibs on the showers- but I pause in front of the bathrooms because Jihoon and Hyunsuk are busy chatting there. I wonder why?
After I shower, I return to my room and promptly fall asleep. My phone buzzes on my nightstand, and I tap the screen to see who it is. It's from Mashiho.
I'll text him in the morning, I think as I fall asleep.
Oh boy, that was a huge mistake.
a/n: for the purposes of the story, there will be only two dorms: one with hyunsuk, jihoon, junkyu, jaehyuk, asahi, and junghwan; and one with yoshi, mashiho, yedam, doyoung, haruto, and jeongwoo
