I sit in the middle of my brothers bed as he digs through his closet. He grabs something then walks over and sits next to me. Luke hands me a dagger and I hold it in my palms.
"Two moons from today is the ball." He says. I already know this, our father just announced it. "I have a feeling some people are going to crash the ball."
"Some people...?" I ask, looking over at him.
"Chase, Pisces, and some others." Chase. All I want is to see Chase right now. If he walked into this room this moment, I would hug him so tight. "Once they crash it, we're going to get you the hell outta here." Did I just hear him correctly?
"You're helping me?"
"Yeah. I'm not leaving my sister here. I'll be going with you."
"Why? Didn't you just drug me and bring me here?"
"I have a role to play like you have one to play." It's always nice to have a brother. I fall back into the bed and let out a sigh. "You're thinking about him."
"How can you tell?"
"Just because you haven't seen me, doesn't me I was always with you." His eyes burn a blue. "I've always been with you."
"So hasn't he."
"Come on." He cracked off his bed and dashes out the door.
"Hey! Wait up!" I yell after him with giggles. I slide my dagger under his pillow then jump off the bed. I run out of the room after my brother. "Luke!" We run around corner then down the stairs.
"Open the doors!" Luke yells at the guards at the door. "We're leaving!" I chase after him out the giant doors once they're opened. He takes a sharp turn into the forest and I still follow.
The soccer practices are paying off. I used to be one of the fastest people on my team, but I quit last year. The girls got to snobby and I didn't want to be one of those fake popular girls. Gross.
"Keep up, baby sis!" Luke yells back at me.
"Where are we going?" I yell back.
"It's a surprise." I run and dodge tree branches. Some bushes scrape my legs, but it doesn't bother me. I used to run through the woods like this when I was little... with a little boy. Just now, I realize that the little boy is my brother.
I used to play with my brother when I was little. I thought that he was just my old childhood bestfriend, I thought he had moved far away. But he didn't. He's my older brother who I'm with right now.
I smile at the thought and push my legs harder. When I look up, I see Luke jump in off of a ledge. I smirk and run over and jump. The sound of splashing water comes from below me.
A moment later, I hit the water and I slip under. I swim up to the surface and I look at my brother as he shakes the water out of his hair.
"This is where I come when I feel like I need more freedom." Luke tells me. I use a lot to swim. I have never been a strong swimmer, I almost drowned and it was scary. "Chandler." Luke grabs my hips and holds me. "Better?" I nod. "I know, you have never been able to really swim."
"You were that kid that I used to play with." I say, getting it out of my system. That makes Luke smile brightly.
"You remember?"
"Yeah. Mom told me that you moved far away and I never heard from you again."
"Yeah, but I've always been with you. I went to all the parties that you went to just like Chase did." I regret most of those parties. I would get drunk and do stupid stuff. Although I had never made physical contact with anyone while drunk, which is good for me.
"At the ball, when we make our escape, you're coming with me, right?" I ask, looking at him through my eyelashes.
"After all I did, do you really want me to? I haven't been the best biggest brother. I haven't always been there for you to beat up the guys that had hit on you."
"No. I want you to come. We're finally together and I don't want to lose my bestfriend again."
"Then I'll go with you as you wish."
"Promise?"
"Pinky swear promise." He smirks. That's what he used to say when we were little. "So, about the last party we went to..."
"Oh, god no." I laugh. The last party was the worst. Minnie recorded me doing things. I guess I had danced on a table and was singing to a Green Day song.
"Well, let's go in the shallow part." Finally. He pulls me as we swim over to the shallow part of the waters. We sit on the sand in the water. The water goes up to my collar bones. "How are your nightmares?" My nightmares. I haven't had any since Chase and I became partners that day in English. I used to have to take medication because my nightmares would get so bad that I wouldn't get any sleep.
"I haven't had any..."
"None since Chase showed up?" I look over at him.
"How'd you know?"
"Because you and Chase have some weird connection. I bet you'll have nightmares tonight."
"What kind of weird connection?" He shrugs.
"I'm not really sure. Like, you're different without him. Him without you is like real easing Hell. I've seen him for the past couple of years." I blush a little at the thought. "Maybe it's love."
"Why didn't Mom just raise me in Heaven? That way I wouldn't had have my life be a whole lie and Chase wouldn't be what he is."
"If you had gone to Heaven, father would've turned me into a full monster and we wouldn't have ever seen each other."
"True point. But it's just a question." He take in a deep breath, thinking. I'm more than glad to have Luke with me. I don't have words to explain how glad I am.
"I think that she was afraid of rejection from her father. She did have two kids with their long lasting enemy."
"Lucifer used to be Gods favorite." He looks at me with the smallest smile.
"How did you know?"
"The bible." He nods, approvingly.
"Impressive, sister."
"I though mom didn't know that it was really Lucifer." He shakes his head.
"She knew. They were in love before he was damned to hell. She would sneak her way down and she got pregnant. Twice." I hope Chase and I would never end up like that. What am I even thinking, we're not even a couple. "What's on your mind, Chan?"
"Chase." I mumble lowly.
"Hey." Luke moves so that he's kneeling in front of me. "He's okay. You will be able to see him soon, okay? I promise you that." He pulls me into a hug and I hug him. A sibling hug that I haven't had since the day he left.
