Chapter 2

Friends or Foes

Will there be fighting or fun?

The smell, it was déjà vu I felt like I was at home for five seconds. Then I came back to reality which was hard I missed my dysfunctional family, Maka turned around noticing that I was there. “Good morning, Kayli. How did you sleep?” Maka asked.

“I slept good, thanks for asking.” I said sleepily. I slept awfully but I didn’t want to tell her that. Why is she so nice to me? I wondered.

“Great! I hope you’re hungry, do you like eggs and bacon?” said Maka who was concentrating on the flipping of eggs.

“Yah I love them actually, it’s something my mom used to cook for me before I went to school.” I said remembering the good old days.

“Really so did my mom.” said Maka looking a little sad.

            So I went to the table and Maka woke Soul up, which he was not happy since it was his day off. Maka set the table and got a bowl for Oscar. Soul eventually got off the couch to come eat with us. The food was delicious and quiet thankfully for me. I needed silence to get my thoughts together. Today Maka and Soul were going to show me around Death City and I’m meeting their friends. I’m really nervous about meeting new people it’s so hard for me. Plus what are they like? Well I will have to get used all these people. I thought working on a way to handle this.

            After breakfast Maka and I cleaned up the table, I had to argue over to help. Soul got ready and we were off. As we walked through Death City, Maka explained each building and street. “Tomorrow we have school so then you will get to see the rest of the DWMA, and meet professor Stein.” said Maka.

”Who is that? There is a boy with blue hair following us.” I said getting a creeper vibe from the blue hair guy.

“Oh that’s just Black Star…he is one of Soul’s friends, I can barely stand him” Maka said looking very irritated.

“Hey Soul, who’s the girl?” said Black Star, who seemed generally curious.

“This is Kayli Wolfe, a new student at the DWMA. Plus she is going to help Maka and me get stronger.” Soul said acting not interested.

“Is she strong, if so then I want to fight her... and what’s with the eyes, they look like wolf eyes, it’s creeping me out.

“Hey! My eyes aren’t creepy, you little maggot. They have been this way since I was twelve.” I said offended. Well if he knew a lot about me then he would know why I have wolf eyes.

“Do you want to go right now? Cuz I’m not afraid to hit a girl.” Black Star sneered.

“No, Black Star don’t, she is new here and I bet she could kick your ass.” Soul said actually defending me. Wow that makes me feel like he might like me. Sort of…

            Well after that whole mess Black Star decided he would walk around with us. We went to a grave yard that they had a lesson in. Then we stopped by Professor Stein’s home. This was interesting and odd. “Um, so this is Professor Stein’s house, would you like to meet him and Miss Marie?” asked Maka quietly.

“Sure??” I said not thinking. I wished I was thinking at that moment cuz I didn’t know what I was getting into.

            We walked into the house and were greeted by a kid… not just any kid, a weird kinda cool kid. He had black hair, yellow eyes, and dressed nicely. He was a male copy of a friend from the U.S. it’s uncanny the closeness of the two. He was with two girls that had light brown hair and probably sisters. “Maka who is the girl?” asked the kid with black hair, which had three white stripes in it.

“My name is Kayli Wolfe, and I wish that people would just ask me my name. If at all possible.” I said getting irritated with not being known.

“Well you’re up front, nice to meet you Kayli, I am Death the Kid. Lord Death’s son. If I may ask are you the new student at the DWMA that my father was talking about?” Kid asked.

“Most likely, I seem to be the talk of the town. I feel like everyone knows about my move here.” I mumbled. Man I wish I was at home, my real home, with my family.

“Ok then, this is Liz and Patty my weapons.” said Kid, looking at the two girls.

“Hi!!!!!!” said Patty, while skipping over to me and giving me a huge hug.

“Hello, Patty…” I said awkwardly.

“Hey I’m Liz, nice to meet someone new.” Liz said looking at me.

“Hi…do you mind getting your sister off of me? I’m not much of a hugger.” I said feeling cornered by the new people.

“Sure and sorry she is a very clingy person.” Liz said while grapping Patty off of me.

I let out a long sigh, man I forgot how scary meeting people could be. I like these people though, they are really nice. Maybe too nice to a person like me, but I do appreciate their kindness. I just won’t show it. I miss my old friends… maybe just maybe my new friends can help forget my past. I hope so, because if I don’t it could get ugly, very quickly.

“Why are you wearing a trench coat in mid-summer?” said Patty looking at me with a funny face.

“I just like trench coats, cuz I can hide myself from the world.” I said with a sly smile.

“Well, you shouldn’t. You look great!!.” Patty said, and then while running past me she grabbed my coat and ripped it off!

“Patty give it back!” I yelled running after her. I only wear a tank under my coat damn, this is embarrassing.

“Hey Kid, some help here!? Please?” I pleaded, trying to grab my coat back. This is fun but irritating.

”Patty give the coat back, but she is right you don’t need to hide from us we are your friends, right?” Kid said coolly, running after Patty and me.

“Well then, I think we should follow the three idiots in front of us. So Kayli doesn’t get lost.” Soul said falling to the ground laughing his ass off.

“I guess lets race Soul.” Black Star said.

“Ok, let’s get moving. Before Soul dies of laughing.” Maka said chuckling a little.

“Crap, will I ever get my damn coat back?” I yelled to the sky.
