Cards

He played the card.

The one with hearts.

She lost,

And he picked up her card of hearts.


She let him have it,

Never refused.

He said he would keep it,

Safe, away from danger.


But when she asked for his,

he ripped her card.

Two pieces on the

dust.

Fallen apart.


They came again,

years later.

And he played,

with her heart.


Yet she never seemed to notice,

Even after all the hints and clues.

He even waved it in her face.

But after all,

She had no heart card.
