It was the first day of freshman year. My world, was unfortunately, still in black and white. I wasn't alone though, only a handful of people's worlds had color, out of pure luck. I didn't really want a colorful world, I had grown accustomed to black and white. I walked to my first period class and bumped into someone.
I looked up to give them a dirty look but as I looked up at him, a flash of color flew between my eyes and the world had color. I looked at the boy and he looked at me. I knew this boy.
Percy Jackson. The cool athletic swimmer. The ladies man. The closeted gay.
He came up to me after, I would assume, also seeing in color, and waved a small wave.
"Hey." He said shyly. It must be a mistake.
Later that day, we went out. Later that month, he kissed me. Later that decade (wow I went far ahead) he asked for my hand in marriage. Of course I said yes, we were soulmates.

I worked at a small building 2 blocks from Percy's. Our apartment was 4 blocks from Percy's building.
It was all a normal day. But it was going to turn around for the worst.

I heard the explosion, before I realized anything was happening, my world was colorless.

My boss gave a sympathetic look and let go. I ran outside and saw fire. I heard screaming. It wasn't in color. I didn't want it to be black and white again, I had grown accustomed to color.
I fell on the floor screaming Percy's name. I knew he was gone. There was no denying it.
At Percy's funeral, everyone was silent. But I wasn't. I walked into the bathroom and screamed,
"HOW COULD I LET THIS HAPPEN
WHY DID I DESERVE THIS
