I was watching a video by The Sin Squad and why some fandoms can be so toxic.
So when people read something or watch something, they have a different interpretation of it right? So a fandom is basically a bunch of people who love the same thing, but view it differently.... And THAT is where the chaos ensues??? Many people apparently use their fandoms as a "safe space", anything that is different to their perspective is viewed as a threat...
Apparently.
So basically human society cannot handle the fact that they could be wrong OR that there are interpretations that are different than theirs. From the video I was watching, apparently this mindset comes from schools.
Schools always focus on what the "right" answer is and what the "right" interpretation of the text is. But the thing is, we are all different! Schools leave no room for different interpretations and different view points, they drill this ideal that there is right and wrong and never consider if there's just a "there" without any right or wrong. Huh... sounds like society.
Anyways, people in fandoms may as well just be people who can't handle other view points. Let's say your in the FNAF fandom, your favorite animatronic is Springtrap but someone else's favorite is Foxy. Now- people are more chill now a days, but "you" who likes Springtrap might see the other person as a threat to what you love. So you might say things that you wouldn't have said if they saw everything from your eyes, but that's the thing! Other people don't have your eyes! They already have their own!!!
So Human Society, Schools, Viewpoints and an undying urge to start fights because your bored causes fandoms to be toxic? Although it also may be the fact that most of this fandom stuff is done online where your identity and face are hidden (not WELL hidden but hidden none the less). Since your hidden and no one knows who you are, you start to say things you normally wouldn't say in real life (I should know, I do this). It's almost as if you have a second persona when you go online, your not even you anymore.
Oh! Or maybe it's because people in this world care too much for such trivial things as someone being different from them. Definitely that.
So while I can't say for certain WHAT society is doing with their life and HOW it dripped into fandoms, I can say that society needs help, along with all and any people who are in fandoms and ended up in the toxic part of it.
I'm serious, seek help for society, it is breaking down as I write this.
This is Hilldra Creator, Lost faith in humanity, yes I got all of this from watching less than half of "The Sin Squad" video...
I hope you have a good day, peace out.
