"Jag måste göra mig klar för kvalet nu (I have to get ready for the qualifying now)", my brother said and gave me a long hug as we stood in the depot at Barber Motorsport park. Lèa and Noah were already on the VIP-stand probably drinking champagne or something. They had left the paddock earlier, due to me wanting some time alone with my brother who I hadn't meet since his season started. We always used to see each other as often as we could even during the season, but due to my trip to Nice two weeks before, and his testing at the Indianapolis 500 track, we hadn't been able to meet up.
"Jaa,...lycka till! (Yeah,...good luck!)", I smiled back after the hug trying to be calm, even though you could see my nervousness from miles away. Previously, I was never this nervous before a qualifying or a race, however it felt different this time. It had felt different the whole start of the season. My brother had began the season with good speed in the car and he could seriously maybe drive about the Indy Car title. Therefore I knew, all the races were important.
I said goodbye to my him in the depot as I made my way to the VIP-stand, and sat down next to Noah. I looked around fast, switching my glance to a new spot every second. I began to bite on my nails which I always did when I was stressed or nervous. The shaking invading my left leg was the 3:rd sign showing the bumbling feeling in my body. I couldn't sit still as I sat there 25 minutes before the qualifying would start.
"Why are you shaking, you okey?", Noah asked watching me with a concerned look.
"No, no..I'm just nervous", I laughed, still shaking my leg like crazy.
"Hey, you don't need to be nervous. We're in Alabama babyyy!", he responded with a big smirk attempting to get me on other thoughts. It worked. The bumbling feeling cooled off and I could calm down.
An hour later, the qualifying was over and I sighed as I heard the speaker announce the starting gird for tomorrow's Grand Prix.
"P1 Rinus Veekay, P2 Pato O'ward, P3 Scott McLaughlin, P4 Alexander Rossi, P5 Alex Palou,....."
"...., P12 Marcus Ericsson, P13 Sco...". I stopped listening when the speaker said my brothers name. He had made a good qualifying, but due to a mistake on the last lap during round 2 making him end up in the gravel and causing a red flag, his two best lap times were deleted, and he ended up in starting row 6.
