Sunday. Miami Grand Prix, Miami, Florida
I stood in the media pen when the first Miami Grand Prix had just ended. I sighed, Charles had started P1, but got overtaken by Max Verstappen and Daniel finished outside the points due to problems during qualifying. Charles didn't do a bad race, though it seemed like the 2022 Ferrari, didn't have as much pace at the end of the straights as the Redbull one.
I tried to hide my disappointment as much as I could, but it was hard. I mean, I had followed my beloved Danny Ric for 6 years. He was so much more than just a racing driver to me. He was my comfort, because whenever I felt down I could just put on a YouTube video with him and forget all my problems. He just made me feel joyful, so of course all I wanted was for him to have a good race. Especially when I was here.
It was the same with Charles. He were a close friend and I couldn't just see over that or ignore it, even though I was a reporter and couldn't be biased. Of course I wanted Charles to succeed and win. Since that's what true friendship is, wanting the other one to do well. He finished 2nd which wasn't bad, though I knew he wanted more. Like, by all means he wanted to win, since he was fighting for the championship.
Overall the Miami Grand Prix's 57 laps had been eventful. Already on the first lap Max moved from P3 to P1, first overtaking Charles teammate Carlos Sainz in turn 1 and then Charles himself in turn 9. The race looked like it would be boring until Lando Norris in the McLaren was spun out of the Grand Prix by Alpha Tauri's Pierre Gasly, causing a safety car. It brought Charles closer, but Max managed to hold his lead. George Russell made a good performance with a little luck from the safety car, as he crossed the finish line as fifth car, moving up from starting position P12. Both Bottas and Esteban Ocon, also made great races, since the Finn finished seventh and the French crossed the finish line as eighth, after starting last.
