It's been quite a while since Cuphead and Mugman brought peace back to Inkwell Isles. It was a celebratory victory nobody could ever forget. No more worrying about losing their lives over a slim sheet of parchment paper, or through other means to be exact. Everything is right with the world!
...But someone else didn't think so. In the farthest reaches of the city lays a now abandoned casino, lying in ruin with decay and misery. While the exterior is out of shape these days, that didn't mean there is no signs of life from the inside. From the depths below where the sun don't shine is what feels like an endless corridor through the hallow cave you're in. The more you proceed without a second thought, the more likely you would start sweating from the amount of heat in the air.
At the end of that dark hallway, you would find no exit; just an empty throne. Well, it would've been empty if anyone would go out of their way to face the most dastardly being in all of the land—the Devil himself—tapping a claw to the arm of his chair with one hand and holding a trident, clutching in the palm of his other hand as if he was ready to snap it in half.
When was the last time he lost a bet with someone? Never, obviously. The Devil always had faith in himself. No matter what he did, he would do anything to take what is rightfully his. The casino was a very tempting place for a passerby to visit to. While he doesn't keep an eye on what sort of games people would gamble their lives on, the Devil would always rely on his right hand man, King Dice, to take care of everything for him, acting as the building's sleazy manager to lift the weight of the demon's shoulders since he can't be in two places at the same time.
If only the cup brothers agreed to give the Devil back the contracts, he would take full control over the Inkwell Isles, and turn the annoying pests before him into his demented slaves. But, to think he was bested by them, despite their size, puny bodies, and fragile skulls. It threw him off the edge, and now he is left with a single horn on the top of his head.
Reminiscing about what happened fuels him with frustration, even in his weakened state. All of his plans went down the drain. His wounds are slowly healing after being hit with so many of those lasers coming out of the boys' finger tips. The Devil even used up the last of his powers to try and bring his victims to their knees, sapping his energy in the process. Sadly, he cried so much during that battle, and still cried for days on end to the point where he couldn't bear to get off of his seat with the grip of his palm being the last of his strength for now.
Suddenly, his train of thought gets interrupted by the sound of the door, opening in front of him, echoing through the thick walls.
"Uhhh, hey, boss. Are you doing okay?"
Poking out of the cracks of the entryway is a plump, purple imp. Of course, one of the Devil's henchmen has come to pity him. It's not like the hairy demon would utter a word out to him with a boast of arrogance. He's already tired as he is, but he continues to listen anyway.
"Well, umm, King Dice wants to speak to you." The imp continued. "Should I let him in, or...?"
"...Bring him in." ordered Devil.
The latter nods his head as he pushes the door to reveal a bright flash of light. A familiar silhouette comes out of it with his hands behind his back. The imp pulls the frame back, shutting the door behind him as the light fades away. The Devil isn't surprised to see his ally. Although, the die-headed man's eyes are furrow and his mouth is forming a frown rather than a grin. Like the entity before him, King Dice is physically healing from the beatdown he had with Cuphead and Mugman, and he's wearing a new pair of clothes.
"I see that you're spiffy as always, Dice." bellowed the demon. "How's your face?"
"Could've been better." King Dice replied. "How's your arm?"
