AUGUST HAD JUST STARTED and the sun was beaming at the eldest of the Whitlock children.
Olivia sat in her bed drawing the cat on her windowsill. She hummed along to the song playing.
She was glad summer had begun. She never really enjoyed school anyways, she didn't have many friends, Olivia preferred spending time alone though it would be a lie if she said she never tried to make friends. It just didn't come easy to her, since she was young she developed an insecurity in herself which often was reflected in the way others saw her.
The loneliness was not easy getting used to, Liv sat alone at lunch reading o playing alone. It was hard until her brother was of age.
Flynn was the most outgoing, fun and friendly kid, he could have been friends with everyone but he loved spending all his time with Olivia. He loved to play with her and listen to her stories, even if he knew she made them up.
A knock on the door distracted her. "It's open, Har." she said, knowing that her father wasn't one to knock.
A little boy came in with a bright smile. "Morning." he beamed. "I finished it!" he sprinted beside her. "Here."
Olivia stopped what she was doing to grab the notebook. Her brother, Flynn, loved writing and he always showed his works to Olivia, he made sure she was his first reader. He begun writing his own stories since he was six, he learnt from his sister's stories.
Flynn inmediately after handing her the notebook headed towards the cat. "Rue slept here again?" Olivia nodded while reading. Flynn petted the cat as she purred loudly.
Rue was a stray cat. She had very long pointy ears, piercing hazel eyes and a long fluffy tail, all covered with her orange fur with brownish stripes. A truly beautiful cat.
Rue was an odd cat, she was always roaming around the Whitlock's, so they decided to take her in, against Austin's will."It's amazing, Har." Olivia genuinely said. Flynn walked over, Rue in his arms. "One of my favorites, I have to admit. You're getting better and better." she hugged him tightly and placed a kiss on his head.
She wasn't lying, she truly did love Flynn's stories and they weren't half bad. For a kid his age they were amazing, and he was improving everyday.
He struggled to get away from her whilst laughing. "Stop! You're crushing Rue." Olivia chuckled in return and stopped. His gaze quickly settled on Olivia's drawing. "Wow!" he took it after leaving Rue in her arms. "Look, Rue. It's you." the cat meowed in return. Olivia let her down carefully. "I guess were both artists."
She chuckled. "We sure are, Har." she nodded dragging him out of her room.
( ... )
"The best type of pie in the world." Liv smiled widely to her father. "Apple pie."
He gave her a weird look. "Absolutely not. Pecan pie is a thousand times better."
Liv scoffed. "Who likes pecan pie better than apple pie? No one." Austin pointed to himself and mouthed "me." with a grin.
The oven made a ding sound indicating it was ready.
Olivia enjoyed baking, she thought that anything that could be baked was better. And she liked having it as a hobby, eating pastries every once in a while.
Of course, Austin had to help her with the oven since he worried she would burn herself, but she didn't seem to mind having him around.
