Adelaine's POV

I was bouncing up and down as I stood in the kitchen of mine and my parent's house. I was very excited. So excited that I couldn't contain myself. The reason that I was so excited was that tomorrow was the first day of school. My first day of fifth grade! It's the final year of elementary school. I can't wait! I'm going to be able to see my best friend tomorrow too! I hope that my best friend is in the same class as me. My best friend is a girl named Lexi Turner. She's such a wonderful friend and the best part of being her friend is that she and her family lived up the street from me. My mother was cooking dinner. She was making pork chops and macaroni. I watched as my mother stirred the pot of mac and cheese. Yum. It looked so tasty! I put my elbows on the counter and rested my chin on my hands, although I was still bouncy and cheerful.

"Adelaine, could you calm down, please? I'm trying to make dinner!"- My mother says with a laugh.

"I can't help it, Mom! I'm just waiting for dinner to be over so I can go to bed so it can be tomorrow already! I am so excited for school tomorrow!"- I reply.

"Why don't you do something helpful with that excitement?"- Mom asked.

"Like what?"- I ask.

"You can help your father set the table Schnügel."- She replies.

"Okay! I can go help Dad!"- I reply, scurrying off to the dining room.

My father was looking through a cabinet of our fancy china. I know a lot of the things inside that are fragile and very important to my parents. I waited patiently by his side to be acknowledged. His eyebrows furrowed in what looked like confusion. Dad turns, finally notices me, and smiled. It looked like for a slight second that I might have scared him.

"Oh, hi sweetheart! Are you going to help me set the table?"- My dad says.

"Mom sent me in here to do just that! I didn't scare you, did I, Daddy?"- I reply.

"You sure did scare me, but that's okay sweetie."- He replies, chuckling.

"Oh, I'm sorry! What are you looking for?"- I reply.

"No no, it's fine. I know where everything is, but I don't know which set to choose. I think I'll ask your mother which one she wants to use."- My father replied, poking his head in the kitchen.

"Alessia, honey, I don't know which china set to set the table with. What do you think we should go with? Or is anything just fine?"- My dad asks as he looks into the kitchen.

"We haven't used the fancy set in a while, use that one, David."- My mother replies.

"Alright. I suppose that we do have something to celebrate."- Dad replies.

"Dinner's almost ready, so set up the table quickly."- Mom says.

My father walked back over to the china cabinet and grabbed the blue set of our fancy china. Why are we using the fancy set? We don't have anything to celebrate about, at least I don't think we do.

"What are we celebrating? We don't have anything to celebrate that I know of. Why are we using the fancy plates, cups, and silverware?"- I ask, confused.

"Of course we have something to celebrate! Don't you know what day it is and what's going to happen tomorrow?"- He replies.

"Today technically is my last day of fourth grade. I start fifth grade tomorrow- I take a few seconds to think, wanting to solve the answer to my own question before Dad answers it -Unless... that's what we're celebrating?"- I reply.

"There's my little geniuses inquisitive mind working!"- Dad says, causing me to giggle.

"Thanks, Daddy! I am your little genius! What can I set on the table? I promise I'll be careful with the expensive and fragile china!"- I reply.
