New Beginnings

Taking a deep breath, I hauled my luggage out of the trunk of the car placing it safely on the ground. Looking at the big building in front of me, I watched as everyone frantically ran around looking for the dorm that belonged to them.

"Well, this is it huh?" I said as I looked over at my boyfriend. He closed the hood of the trunk and grabbed some of my luggage. "It's pretty nice, I must admit. You're home for the next two years." Planting a kiss on my forehead, he threw one arm around my shoulders leading me into the building.

The next two years of my life will be spent at Rose University majoring in Biology. I went to community college for my first two years as a way to save money, and because I wasn't ready to move away from home yet. I'm glad I didn't though, if it wasn't for me staying close to home I would have never met Levi.

Funny story, we actually met because I was completely lost on my way to class. If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have made my way around the school. We've been together for two years and do almost everything together. He's also been my first in a lot of things. Unfortunately, I wasn't the typical girl that got to experience a lot during her high school years. I stayed inside most of the time and when I did go out, it was either for school or because I had to go to work.

Money has always been tight so I made sure to always keep a job. No matter how busy I was though, Levi was always there with me through it all. He's patient and knows to do all the right things. He's all I ever knew, and the thought of being with him for the rest of my life is nice.

"Come on, let's try and find out which room you're staying in." He said breaking me from my thoughts. Nodding, I went into the building making my way to the group of people standing in the hallway.

"If you're here for sign-in, stand in the line corresponding with the letter of your last name." One of the voices shouted out. Looking at the labeled tables, I made my way to the one that started with an H. After what seemed like an eternity of waiting in line, I was finally handed my keys and a piece of paper letting me know which room I was in.

Room 305

Walking towards the elevator with my luggage, Levi and I got in pressing the button to the third floor. For some reason, I was nervous. I never had to worry about the possibility of living with someone else, especially since I never had any siblings. Anxiously, I started to bite my fingernails as I felt the elevator begin to rise.

"Nervous?" Levi asked as he pulled me closer to him. Sinking into his embrace, I sighed, my worries slowly starting to wash away. "It's that noticeable?" I responded.

"Well, you only bite your nails when you're nervous, so yeah." He chuckled slowly rubbing my arm. "Listen, you don't have anything to worry about. This is a new chapter of your life and I know you're gonna do great. You just have to relax and take it one step at a time." He said smiling down at me.

Somehow his words made everything feel okay as if I was ready for anything.

Once the elevator came to a stop, I rolled my luggage down the hallway until my eyes laid on Room 305.

Unlocking the door, I walked inside to see a short blonde-haired girl sitting on the bed reading a book. She looked up at him slowly putting the book down. "You must be Iyla. I'm Annie." She said softly as she looked me up and down before turning her sight to Levi.

"Hi, this is my boyfriend Levi, he just came to help me move in." I smiled as I started to unpack my things. Unsurprisingly, she wasn't very talkative. As I unpacked my things she didn't speak anymore and instead continued with her book. Once I finally finished, I looked back at all the work we did.

Looking between me and Annie's side you could tell we were polar opposites. Her side was monochrome with scenic posters laid out across her walls, while mine was a mixture of baby blue and pastel with pictures of my family and friends decorated above my bed.

"Alright, now that we're done, how about we go out for dinner for our last night together in a while." Levi suggested as he pulled me into a hug. Nodding, I waved bye to Annie as he left, but I don't think she seemed to notice.

To end the night, we went to a semi-fancy restaurant where we talked about the day and went down memory lane of all our favorite times together. I was lying if I said I wasn't gonna miss being around Levi every day, but I knew I was gonna love every second of college. Finally, I was away from home and free to do whatever I pleased.

I was excited for whatever was to come.
