Ash and Serena's pursuit led them to one of the side rooms, and Ash tried to turn on the light but to no avail. So, he turns on his phone's flashlight. Suddenly, the axes began tipping over.
"Look out!!!" Ash yelped, grabbing Serena and pulling her out of the way. "you okay, Serena?"
"Yeah, i'm fine." Serena responds
When they got out the other door, they looked around.
"Where'd he go?" Ash asked on the phone
"We don't know! We can't see where he went!" Velma responds
Meanwhile, Scooby and Shaggy bolted into a side room. They poked their heads out of the clothes they were hiding in.
"I hope he doesn't look in here." Shaggy said
"RMe too." Scooby responds before his nose began twitching. "RI smell Nanab berries."
Shaggy sniffed a little.
"Yeah, I smell that too." Shaggy responds before leaning over to the person in there with them. "Do you smell Nanab berries?"
However, it was a bit late when he realized that it was the Phantom in there with them! When they did realize it and the Phantom cackled, they screamed and bolted out of the room. In the camera room, everyone spotted the Phantom on the cams.
"He's heading North!" Fred comments
Ash and Serena went to head North before bumping into each other.
"I'm sorry." Ash comments
"No, i'm sorry, I didn't mean to-" Serena starts
"Go!" Velma comments
in the camera room, they saw the Phantom get to the stairwell before vanishing into thin air right on the cameras.
"Jinkies!" Velma comments. "Did you guys see that?"
"Maybe he really is a ghost....." Clemont stated, shaking
They later regrouped in the lobby.
"How in the world could that creep just...vanish on camera?" Serena comments
"There's gotta be a logical explanation for it." Velma responds
"Yeah, like, he's a ghost!" Shaggy comments
"A ghost that smells like Nanab berries?" Daphne questioned. "That's weird."
"And, like, it ISN'T weird for there to be a ghost that doesn't smell like Nanab berries?" Shaggy responded
"We gotta figure otu a way to get to the bottom of this." Clemont stated
"Come on, guys." Fred said
They stepped out.
"Okay, Clemont, Bonnie, Fred, Daphne, and I are gonna go get us checked into the hotel and do some internet research." Velma said. "Shaggy, you and Scooby go to the Library on the north side of town and see what you can find out about the opera house's history."
"Like, why are Scoob and I the choice for library research?" Shaggy questions
"Then Pikachu and I will see what we can find out here at the opera house." Ash comments. "Serena, you gonna come with?"
Serena blushed a little before collecting herself and following Ash back into the opera house. Later, while everyone was doing what they were to do, Ash, Pikachu, and Serena were lookign around.
"Ash, how come ghosts and monsters always show up wherever we go with the gang?" Serena asks. "Is it something about them?"
"I doubt it." Ash comments as he looks around. "It probably happens to more than just them. It'd be too much of a coincidence if it was just the gang that it happened to. So, my theory is that it's more likely that it happens everywhere all the time. Plus, most of the cases they stumble on are stumbled on by coincidence or on accident. It's simple math."
Pikachu's ears twitched before he opened a door and they all jumped a little when the man in screamed a little.
"What are you doing here?" The man asks
"We might ask you the same thing." Ash responds
"I'M Mel Richmond. I own this building and I have a right to lurk in it!" Mel responds. "You kids form the show?"
"Yeah, we're competing in it." Ash responds
"Well, good luck to both of ya and your Pokemon." Mel responds. "You make a cute couple."
They both had blushed a little and Serena went on for a bit before coming back to her senses.
"wait, why we even talking about this?" Serena comments. "Can we change the subject?"
they nodded and Ash collected himself.
"Mr. Richmond, what can you tell us about the Phantom?" Ash asks
"Ugh, that business again." Mel comments. "Look, that was all way before my time. I inherited this place a few years ago when my father passed away. It's costing me thousands of dollars a week! I can't do anything with it! People are still spooked by that phantom nonsense and that was years ago."
"What was?" Ash asks
"Pika?" Pikachu comments
"it happened back in the 70s. before that, there had been some oddities, but nothin scary." Mel comments. "When my father turned the place into a Disco, all heck broke loose. The Phantom wreaked havoc every night but people thought it was part of the show. Despite the Phantom, the club flourished. Customers looked forward to seein it. Even though it was said his mask hid a terrible deformity."
They all looked at each other.
"No one was ever really hurt but over time the Phantom became more destructive. One night, he destroyed the disco ball." Mel adds. "After that, no one came back and eventually, my father was forced to close it down. Haven't been able to rent it at all until the Talent Star people came around and now they say the Phantom's back! Well, maybe i'll get lucky and he'll burn the place down so I can collect the insurance money, eh? Or maybe I should put on a cape and mask and do it myself."
Mel noticed the faces he was getting.
"What? It was jsut a joke!" Mel comments
