The cool ocean breeze that lingered gently above the waters licked at Robert's exposed neck, the afternoon sun set high in the sky from where he stood. His deep auburn hair became tousled from the lashings of the wind, causing him to cover his eyes with a work-worn hand.
The boat rocked roughly in the choppy water, its sleek white body jostling the passengers within. The cawing of birds made its way to his ears eclipsing the whirring of the boat engine. A flock of wingulls gracefully dipped and twirled low above the ocean's top, casting specs of water into the air.

The fresh smell of the sea, the wind, everything. This is the kind of thing Robert Cobble loved. Nothing could replace the thrill of the unknown, for the oceans' depths held many secrets. So did the place he was going to arrive at. Speaking of...

His eyes scanned across the endless blue, eventually landing on a white blur afar. Aether Paradise. The artificial island is spoken about often by the Alolan people. A feat for its time; yet, here he was, investigating a concept that might not even be true. But it was a risk he was willing to take. He had to take it.

He didn't spend months calling up old friends and calling in favors just to quit when he was almost there. The chance to work with the esteemed Looker was an achievement on its own. But actually being able to carry out one of his missions, the mission that was vital to his unanswered questions? Of course, he'd take that risk.

Robert Cobble was a gambling man, for sure.

Being snapped out of his daze once again, it seemed he was almost at his destination. It was much clearer now; discernible windows, clear shrubbery and foliage, and the giant gate that served as the main entrance. The main building was blockish, being made up of a thin but tall aperture. A giant yet intricate rhombus symbol glinted in the sunlight, indicating the main entrance.

His mouth couldn't help but go agape as an unseen weight settled itself on the bottom of his jaw. The report Looker gave him said it was the size of an island...

But this was an island island.

He patted down his new outfit, tailored specifically to his tastes. White really wasn't his color, but the futuristic feel the uniform gave off was something not everybody could say they have. The padded gloves were a nice addition, but the clunky shoes could use a rework.

The giant pound lock that was the boat entrance opened up like a Wailord ready to feed. Putting his uniform cap snugly on his head, he could hear the giant metallic doors snap shut from behind. The engines of the ship finally cut off, and the boat slowly drifted into port.

Once they were docked, a tiny metal staircase protruded from the side of the ship, and other people in uniforms already hopping off. To be honest, he didn't even know they were there the whole ride. He definitely stayed in his own head too much.

Setting foot onto solid ground, he scanned his surroundings once more. The patterning on the walls was somewhat plain, yet still held that out-of-this-world feel. This mini harbor was quite busy; another ship was already on its way for departure. Light chatter emanated around the port, mostly about different Pokémon and the encounters each person had with them. Giant crates that complemented the walls lined the perimeter, held with some unknown substances. If not for the calming blue of the sea, Cobble wouldn't know where the room started and ended with the complementary whites and greys.

There was a strange object in the middle of the room, the people in uniform flocking there. It was a fluorescent blue triangle planted into the ground, with spires on each of its points. The pillars then connected to one another that resembled trim, embedded with the same rhombus insignia that the main building had. A big group stepped onto the shining triangle, still chattering amongst one another. Gates shot up from where the edges of the shape, and they levitated effortlessly high up into the air.
