It is a great time for United Kingdom. The Railways are the best way to be the travel around the country, from Britain to Scotland, and back again. Here, there are four main competitors that work for the top place. Here, in London, there is a single station that all the nations of the UK meet. It's called the Charing Cross.
Here, some of the fastest steam engines around come and often boast about their railway.
One of these engines comes in on Platform 1.
Mallard looked at the clock, and smirked, "6 minutes early!! A new record!!"
Mallard is an LNER A4 Pacific designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. He has a 4-6-2 wheel configuration, is garter blue, has side valances, red wheels, the number 4468 on his cab, and the letters LNER on his tender. He had also recently received the title of fastest engine in the world, with a top speed of 126 mph!
His coaches were very fancy, and he took pride in this new train that the four major railways had been doing.
Recently, the London and North Eastern Railway, London and Midland Railway, Great Western Railway, and Southern Railway, have all trialed their own engines, and have been meeting to make exchanges. It has gained profit from all the four major railway companies, and they were happy to see what other engines there were.
