"Don't worry mommy, I'll be back in Lagos in a month." I remind my mother.
Although i am beyond trilled to FINALLY go on my long-awaited vacation, my parents worry, specifically my mother's, bothers me .
"BOSE!!!." My father screamed. "Her flight is about to start boarding, she'll come back to Nigeria immediately after." He sighed, he then grumpily added, "Before she leaves us for America."
Last year when I had told them of my traveling plans they had been happy for me, but as it slowly started creeping into their present reality it became harder for them to digest. They want me to go to America and succeed in my writing career but the thought of not having their only child present at all times stresses them out, so I firmly avoid the topic.
"GOODBYE mommy and BYE BYE daddy." "I'll call you when I land in Manila." I waive my parents goodbye as I troddle along backwards facing them.
I turn slowly, tears forming in my eyes, looking around for check-in.
"All passengers boarding flight A0975 to Manila,Philippines this is the last call for boarding, I repeat this is the last call for boarding."
I quicken my pace and arrive at check-in fumbling my passport and boarding pass into the hands of the breathtakingly gorgeous attendant. "Okay ma, you can go now, have a safe flight." She echoes with a smile.
I smile back and distractingly board the plane.
I find my seat very swiftly and place my carry on up head.
I'm one of the few people who enjoy long
plane rides, so the 18 hours I'll be spending in Future Airlines business class does not bother me.
I sit in my reclinable chair, close my space in, and turn on the airplane's miniature television, planning to spend the next 18 hours in the prologue to paradise.
