I find Marlow in the address he's given me.
"Really? A five-star hotel?" I huff a laugh as the brunette young woman who's escorted me shuts the door from the outside.
"Well, kid, I'm a man of great taste," Marlow brags right from the seating area where a blonde Caucasian is throwing a tight stare at me.
A small growl slides off my mouth as I look around. Large presidential suit, great city view, with enough privacy—I presume.
"So," I say, eyes on him and his companion, "is this where I'm supposed to meet the new partner?"
"Not so fast, boy. First loosen up, grab yourself a bourbon, and sit. If you want food, we can order some. It doesn't have to be straight to business all the time, pleasure is welcome when due." From the wing chair next to the ceiling-length window, Marlow rises up with an empty glass in his hand.
I snort and glide toward the mini bar. I could seriously use a drink. I pour myself a glass and chug a long sip. Yeah, damn right. If only a whiskey could solve the world wars. Sighing, I stride over to join them.
"Meet Rogers Burk," Marlow says, hand flung toward the Caucasian in a black suit. "He's with the CIA."
The blonde stands up. Firm blue eyes meet mine. The dude looks like he hates repeating the same word twice. Tall, wide shoulders, and a bit of a wrinkled face. Probably in his late forties. Smart suit and Rolex? He can't be the partner guy.
"Red," I respond.
We shake hands.
"Call me Rogers," Burk says as we take a seat on the L-shaped sectional couch. He loosens his azure tie, paired with a white shirt. "We're also tracing the Project Z. The NSA and CIA have formed a classified special force, and we've decided to collaborate with the FBI so as to speed up the internal investigation." He sounds professional enough, no chasing around the bushes.
I appreciate that.
He and Marlow explain more about the current Intel regarding the Project Z. Truth to be told, it now feels more like a terrorist attack in the form of genetically engineered viruses—creation of deadly and infectious diseases, and their treatment or vaccines for both political and economical gains.
It's an ugly side of the Pharmaceutical industry I never knew existed until lately. My stomach twists in disgust knowing these horrendous acts really happen in this very same world we're living in. And all along I thought guns, missile, and bombs are hell of the best weapons but this is insane.
They say it's business. But with China and Russia being one the riders in this, Marlow and his pals doubt the return is simply a viral generation of money from the drugs and vaccine sales as what's speculated from the recent pandemic. This could really be a political deviltry.
On the other hand, I strongly believe that the Pharmaceutical companies are all about making large returns in any opportunity rising. It's business to them, regardless of the risks put on humanity. There's a possibility they're just being used as a pawn, or they could be really directly involved.
