Bad stared at his screen blankly, the blue light reflecting on his glasses. It's been a week since he took a break to sort out his feelings. It's also been a week since he talked to any of his friends. He'd ignored numerous pings from his friends, controlling the urge to respond at all. While it had been difficult, it was something he needed at the time. He was finally ready to come back. After talking to Dream and a couple of other friends, and especially the people he knew would understand, (red and ant lol) he was finally ready to do the thing he had been avoiding all week. Talk to Skeppy. He clicked the call button, greeted with an instant response.
"Bad? BAD!? Where've you been, Puffy said you talked to her but you di-"
"Skeppy, calm down. I just needed to talk to Puffy first about something really important. I just needed a break from devices and stuff, y'know, to clear my mind." Bad stammered nervously. He said all of that extremely quickly. Skeppy frowned.
"What really important thing? Why didn't you tell me first?" Skeppy snapped. It was more of a demand to know than a question.
"Well, I-I uh, it's complicated," Bad said sheepishly, cursing himself for not thinking this call out through first. He heard Skeppy scoff through the mic.
"Bad, is there something you aren't telling me?" He asked. The question sounded genuine, and it comforted Bad despite the high chance that it was just to get an answer out of him.
"I needed to...sort out some feelings. With a person." Bad replied, nervously tugging on hoodie strings.
"You like someone?!" Skeppy exclaimed. Bad winced.
"Y-yeah, I guess you could put it like that," Bad said uncomfortably. He heard shuffling through the mic.
"Is it Puffy? Is that why you called her fi-"
"No! No, no it's not Puffy ." Bad chimed in. "The person...doesn't know yet."
"I can help you tell them. You are a very likable person, they probably l-"
"No, no don't say that," Bad mumbled. "I don't want to get my hopes up."
There was a pause of silence.
"Who is it Bad?" Skeppy asked softly. The question was gentle, not forced at all. Despite the minutes ago when Skeppy was speaking harshly, Bad still admired the genuine care in his friend's voice. He was giving him an option- a choice, to tell him. Bad respected Skeppy for that.
"I...don't know if I can say that," Bad said. There was a moment of silence yet again.
"That's okay," Skeppy said. It was clear he was hurt by the lack of trust Bad put into him. Bad heard it and really wished he could just say the truth.
"I can...give you a hint, I suppose?" Bad offered, biting his lip nervously.
"Sure!" Skeppy said, mood shifting in a second.
"Well...I've been friends with him for a while," Bad said, smiling to himself. He awaited Skeppy's response, yet there wasn't one. Finally, after what seemed like a year, the man spoke.
"Him?" Skeppy questioned.
Oh. Bad's eyes widened in shock as he gritted his teeth nervously.
"Crap- I'm sorry I didn't want to say that-"
"You're sorry? Why would you be sorry?" Skeppy said, a smile obvious in his voice. "In fact, I'm proud of you. I don't care about gender, I support you either way." Bad smiled, dropping the fidgety behaviors he did when he was nervous.
"I...didn't expect that." Bad confessed. He heard Skeppy laugh lightly through the mic. He shut his eyes lightly at the sound. Skeppy's laugh was nice to hear, despite the multiple comments said about how loud, high pitched, and annoying Skeppy's voice could be. Bad disagreed. He thought it was perfect.
"Seriously? I'm not a dickhead, I have basic human decency-"
"Language!" Bad cut in, smiling to himself. Skeppy sighed.
"Ok fine, I'm not a muffinhead I have basic human decency." He said, emphasizing the word muffinhead. Bad didn't reply, and Skeppy took it as an invitation to keep talking.
"How else does the person you like act? Do I know them?" Skeppy questioned curiously. Bad's smile fell. If only you knew.
"Yeah, you know them. Pretty well, actually." Bad responded, filtering any of his bad emotions to show in his voice.
"Really!?" Skeppy said in a bright voice. "I can help you tell them then?" Bas chuckled lightly.
"Sure, if you want to." Bad replied. "What should I do?"
"Message them and tell them! Or do it in a cool way." Skeppy said.
"Nah, I think I'll just message them." Bad said. He could feel himself getting nervous. What if Skeppy asks to see the message? Or the response? Bad fiddled his thumbs nervously. I'm just gonna have to own up to my feelings and do it. When he tells me what to message, I'll message it to him. I'm gonna have to confess one way or another. It wasn't the best nor original plan, but he really just needed to tell Skeppy.
"What should I message them?" Bad asked, placing his hands on his keyboard.
"Uhh, say 'hi I like you in a romantic way because you are cool 14'" Skeppy said, snikering.
"Skeppy!" Bad scolded, though he was smiling.
"Do it, I dare you!" Skeppy said. Bad sighed.
"Actually?" Bad asked, typing out the silly message through Discord.
"Sure, why not? It's comedic enough so that if they don't like you you guys can still be friends, and it gets the point across. If someone confessed to me like that, I'd be happy about it." Skeppy said. Bad blushed slightly at his last comment, but didn't say anything about it.
"Okay should I, uh-"
"Send it!" Skeppy interrupted, grinning. Bad held his breath. It's now or never. It's inevitable.
He sent the message to Skeppy. There was a beat of silence.
"Bad." Skeppy said. It was impossible to read his tone.
"Yeah?" Bad replied in a shakey voice.
"Me?" Skeppy asked, his voice trembling.
"Yeah." Bad whispered silently.
"Me too." Skeppy said. He was crying, clearly. Bad felt like a balloon was swelling inside him, blinded by happiness.
"I love you so much Skeppy." He cried happily.
"I love you too Bad. And now I can say as more than a friend." Skeppy said. Bad looked at his shaking palm. It really was worth it.
