Three days later.
"Sooo... Why'd you start calling yourself Ember? Why not just stick with your real name?"
Ember, they had all decided it was best that they referred to her human and ghost forms by different names to give her a better shot at not being found out, shrugged at Sam's question. "When you first enter the Zone your memories get all screwy. I could remember my last name, but not my first, and since my hair was on fire..."
"Uh-huh. And it probably had nothing to do with the fact you thought it was cool." Ember's cheeks became a bluish green, which the three of them had learned was her version of blushing.
"That might have had something to do with it." Another thing they had learned was that Ember was actually very nice most of the time, so long as you weren't picking on others. She was also kind of an awkward nerd at times. "Anyway, sometimes your memories come back, sometimes they don't. Kitty and her boyfriend still don't remember their last names."
"Huh." The sudden sight of a glowing blue light emerging from a building grabbed her attention. Turning away from Ember, Sam raised her Fenton Spook Spotters, which were literally just binoculars, and looked through them.
Glowing? Check. Floating? Check. Dressed like he's going to a Renn Fair as a medieval peasant? Double check. Sam picked up her radio and pressed the call button. "Guys, Ember and I found him, he just floated out of Nasty Burger. Looks like he escaped from Walker's Prison if the chains on his legs are any indication."
"Hey, let me see." Sam raised an eyebrow but handed over the binoculars anyway. Ember glanced through them and laughed before taking the radio from Sam and pressing the call button. "If you guys want we can all go home, I know this guy, he's harmless. Walker hates him, but he's the only one. Everyone else either just jokes with him or ignores him. Probably couldn't catch him anyway."
The radio buzzed for a second before Danny's voice came through. "What do you mean?"
"I mean he's less dangerous than the Box Ghost. His name's Keyes, he's from 12th century England if I remember right. Was tossed in Newgate like, fifty seven times for public drunkenness. Escaped every single time.
"Talents transferred into the afterlife, he breaks Walker's stupid rules all the time just so he can get locked up and escape. Done it 'bout four hundred times, he never stays for more than a week. You guys could probably just ask him to get in the thermos, he'd take it as a challenge and be out in minutes. Heck, he might be here just to get shoved in the thing."
The radio buzzed again. "Are you serious?"
"Yup."
"Alright, tomorrow's Saturday, so let's all meet up at Nasty Burger. Ember I want to know all about the other Ghosts you know..." A minute later the radio buzzed again. "Hey Ember, do you know a Ghost that I can only describe as a 'surfer dude'?"
"Is he shirtless with dreadlocks, wearing neon pink trunks with palm trees and carrying a surfboard that looks like a shark?"
"That would be an affirmative." Tucker was the one who answered her question this time.
"That's actually two Ghosts. The guy's name is Marvin, the board's actually a shape changing shark Ghost that he named Nibbles. He's a pretty chill dude, mostly just hangs out in his Realm and surfs. Throws the occasional beach party for the rest of us teenage Ghosts, those things get wild."
"Is he dangerous?"
Ember shook her head, not that Danny or Tucker could see it. "Not really? I mean, he can control water, especially salt water, but he isn't really all that aggressive. Worst thing I've ever seen him do is use his powers to soak Kitty while she was sunbathing. So long as you don't blast him he'll probably get bored and go back to the Zone."
