chapter four: one last lap and then it's party til you drop [alternatively called: she's got the moves, sasuke]

✧.*

sakura felt the tip of a pen tap her on her back, and she instinctively put her hand out behind her. she felt a crumpled piece of paper slipped between her fingers and she quickly brought it to her desk, shielding its content from the rest of the world behind her arm.

her and tenten had been at it for a while now, passing paper slips to each other with messages on them; history really had proven to be the most boring class of them all, and it didn't help that it was sakura's last class of the day and she was desperate to be done with school.

it was now friday, and though her first day was really chaotic, the rest of sakura's week was surprisingly uneventful. she got to know her friends a lot better, though.

for example, hinata--her closest friend thus far--actually has a brother that goes to their school. neji hyuga, and he's in itachi's grade. it's sort of a sore subject for hinata though, so sakura knows better than to press on the topic.

she also got to know tenten a bit more, since they had a lot of classes together. they bonded a lot over track, and though sakura initially judged her for her taste in friends, the brunette herself wasn't actually that bad. ino on the other hand was heinous.

every time sakura saw her, it was an argument on sight. the two butt heads over everything, constantly bickering about how annoying the other is. though her relationship with ino was exhausting, sakura had in some ways come to appreciate its stability. she only had two classes with the girl (advisory and french) so it was enough for her to handle in a day.

meanwhile, sakura shared almost every class with naruto; in some poor string of events the two ended up thrown together in almost every aspect of school, even somehow ending up in the same friend group. when he wasn't constantly flirting with her, naruto wasn't so unbearable and was actually kind of funny. it was weird because sometimes sakura had the urge to smile just at the sight of his goofy smile, which instantly went away the second he started calling her babe. now that she thought about it, sakura could also say that naruto was one of her closest friends at school too, mainly because of all the time they spend together in classes.

sakura unfurled the paper tenten passed to her, reading: we're meeting up at ino's saturday night to pregame for the party, 7:00 pm work? also still can't believe you scored us an invite to one of shisui's legendary parties,,,how are things with you and itachi btw??? im starvedddd for entertainment.

the pink-haired girl smiled to herself as she read the note in tenten's voice, formulating her response: yea 7:00 is fine, text me the addy later. also itachi's been sweet, we've just been texting tho. every once in a while he'll stop by my locker to talk with me, but it's mainly just flirting lmao. but anyways i have my tryout for the track team today after school and he said he'll swing by if he's still on campus,, im praying he doesn't tho im already nervous as it is.

she folds the note back up and fakes a yawn, stretching her arms so that they reach tenten's desk and deposits the note on her desk. it takes the brunette a minute to scribble her response and pass it back to sakura.

wait that's actually so cuteeee he's coming to support you <3333 i still cant believe ur pulling itachi mf uchiha ur my literal idol. also ur gonna absolutely crushhh tryouts your times are insanely good. dw i'll be there to support you if he doesnt show, and ill drag hinata along.

it was flattering to hear tenten speak so highly of her, but sakura wished she saw herself the same way. as sweet as itachi was being, there was something about the whole matter that made her a bit uneasy. it just didn't make sense that with having all the options in the world, he would choose her. there really wasn't anything that special to her.
