chapter six: the night is still young (and so are we) [alternatively called: shisui's legendary parties really do last a lifetime, don't they?]

note: mentions of underage drinking made.

sakura had been searching for sasuke for the past 15 minutes, and she was starting to lose hope that he was even still at the party. she had checked every secluded corner, every empty balcony, hoping that her teal eyes would meet his own navy blue-black ones.

she sighed in defeat, her feet starting to ache from walking around in her platform heels for a while; to make matters worse, she was practically lost in shisui's large mansion. all the hallways looked the same and sakura couldn't remember which one she had to go through to get back downstairs.

if her calculations were correct, she was on the third floor. that seemed about right considering how far the ground was from this height, or so she could tell from the window.

at this point sakura was ready to give in and call itachi or any of her friends to see if they could come find her, until she felt a strong breeze coming from a certain direction.

her pink hair was flooding her vision, but beyond it she saw a door wavering open.

curiosity guided her towards that door, and it only led to yet another staircase. a fourth floor? but this one led straight outside, explaining the incoming gust of wind.

no, the roof.

sakura carefully made her way up the stairs trying not to trip; the blowing wind didn't make it any better.

once she got up there, she scanned the flat surface to find it empty, except for one person.

"sasuke," she said softly. she didn't mean for him to hear it; she didn't even mean to say it out loud, but the wind carried her soft voice to his perceptive ear.

he scoffed, not needing to turn around from where he was sitting to know who it was, "i'm surprised you found me."

she walked calmly over to the spot he was at, looking down on him once she reached it. "who said i was trying to find you?"

sasuke shrugged. "can't really find any other reason why you'd ditch the party. or your date."

sakura sighed and sat down on the floor next to him. she looked up at the night sky; you couldn't see many stars because of light pollution, but the moon shone as beautiful as ever. "you disappeared earlier before i could say thank you. so thank you."

he hummed in response, not really knowing what to say. 'your welcome' sounded too cheesy. 'it was nothing' would be a lie. because it was something. so just a hum would do.

sasuke shifted awkwardly, sneaking a few glances at her here and there, completely forgetting how to talk to her. he raked his hand through his hair and slightly winced at the contact of his open wounds to the slicing strands of charcoal. by anyone else it would've been imperceptible, but she caught onto it right away.

her gaze shifted from him to his hands and locked onto his knuckles, split and open. "oh my god, sasuke! your hands!"

"it's nothing, don't worry about it." she rolled her eyes at his indifference. "don't say that, it obviously hurts."

she started rummaging through her purse before taking out what she was looking for: a mini bottle of antibiotic cream and a small roll of bandage wrap. he chuckled slightly at the idea of sakura carrying a first aid kit in her bag throughout the night, while she was dancing, partying. not that it was funny, maybe just a bit comical to him that someone like her existed within the masses.
