Raya Sunshine First Person Pov
As we walked into potions class, other kids gave us strange looks. Harry and Ron were both glaring at the Slytherins, but Hermione just looked dejected. I was going to sit up front where I usually sat, with whatever random person sat there, but Draco gestured to me to sit next to him. I was pleasantly surprised and did so.
"Today, class, we are making a Draught of Living Death. The instructions are simple. Work with your partner and be finished by the end of class." Professor Snape said.
Instructions:
1. Add 3 measures of fluxweed to the cauldron
2. Add 2 bundles of knotgrass to the cauldron.
3. Stir 3 times, clockwise.
4. Wave your wand then let potion brew for 80 minutes
5. Add 4 leeches to the cauldron.
6. Add 2 scoops of lacewing flies to the mortar, crush to a fine powder, then add 2 measures of the crushed lacewings to the cauldron.
7. Heat for 30 seconds on a low heat.
8. Wave your wand to complete this stage of the potion.
9. Add 3 measures of boomslang skin to the cauldron.
10. Add 1 measure of bicorn horn to the mortar, crush to a fine powder, then add one measure of the crushed horn to the cauldron.
End instructions: Warning: Do not ingest while making potion!
I told Draco to start on the potion while I got the rest of the ingredients. I went to grab the ingredient, but I was too short to reach the bicorn horn of the top shelf. Vince saw me struggling and reached up from behind me to get it.
"Here you go," He said, handing it to me.
"Thanks Vince." I said. He looked sort of surprised, but why?
"You're welcome. I'm not used to people saying thank you to me, or calling me anything other than Crabbe." Vince said.
"Oh, I'm sorry." I asked, "Do you prefer Crabbe?"
"No, I like Vince." he smiled and went to go get the rest of his ingredients.
I went back to my table and began to work on the potion with Draco. For some reason I couldn't help but blush a little every time our hands touched.
The rest of class went pretty normally, but I saw Neville struggling with adding the boomslang skin, so when I walked past him, I helped him add the skin, slowly to make sure that it didn't splash all over. He thanked me and I walked back to mine and Draco's table.
Draco asked me, "Why did you help him? Longbottom didn't ask for help."
"I could tell that Neville needed help. His facial expression betrayed his thoughts." I said with a smile, "And besides, I would rather help someone who didn't ask for it, than ignore someone who needed my help."
"That's a good philosophy." Draco said and he smiled at me. I smiled back and looked around the room again. Ugh. Ron was still glaring at me. Draco noticed and glared at the redhead.
"What's wrong, Weasel? Can't figure out that you're supposed to actually follow the instructions? Why don't you just ask your little girlfriend over there how to help you. Oh, wait, that's not a girl, it's Potter!"
Draco laughed while Harry glared at us, too, "Sorry Potter, I don't see how I could have ever thought you were a girl. You're too ugly for that."
The other Slytherins laughed, because they also saw the dirty looks Ron and Harry were giving me. I almost wanted to laugh, but I knew that it wasn't nice to pick on people, even if they were rude to me. I decided to change the subject instead.
