Batter Up

7th Inning

     We're at the top of the order for the seventh inning which means Tony is first up to bat.

Where the other team seemed to have a run streak going last inning, we start ours with the opposite.

Tony is the first up and the first out.

Not an ideal way to start our inning, especially when we're behind in the game for the first time.

Yelena is next and I know she's ready. Spencer was giving her a pep talk before sending her out and she was looking confident.

Spencer stands next to me, arms crossed but with a giant grin on her face.

"What?" I question her.

"Huh? Oh, nothing. I'm just happy for Yelena." She doesn't even take her eyes off of her.

Clint throws a few balls before a strike.

Spencer cups her hands before yelling out, "That's okay, Lena! You've got two more. Show this chump what you're made of!"

Clint turns to the dug out. "Really? My kids are up there!" He half jokes.

Spencer shrugs her shoulders, "I know. And they know who I am. They shouldn't be surprised."

Clint nods his head knowing it's true and getting back to the game.

And this little distraction was exactly what Yelena needed as she sends it sailing passed Wanda who does try to jump for it, it being just too far out of her reach.

Gotta give credit where credit is due; she really did try to catch it.

Thor is swift to pick up the ball and send it back, but not before Yelena had the chance to make it to second.

We all cheered, the loudest being Spencer.

T'Challa is next. He makes quick work of hitting a grounder which bounces weird by Sam, giving Yelena the chance to make it to third and T'Challa to second.

Rhodes is up.

After two balls, he hits the next one out to Steve in center who catches it easily.

BUT Yelena tags third before making a break for home. Steve must have known she was waiting for this as he gives his best throw to Valkyrie in attempts to stop Yelena and end our inning.

But it isn't enough.

(Also.. it's a damn good thing it's Val as the catcher. I would not have wanted to catch that throw from Steve.)

Yelena makes it across home plate without getting tagged. T'Challa takes the opportunity to tag up on second and easily make his way to third.

"Yes! Now that's what I'm talking about!" Spencer says hugging Yelena as she enters the dugout. They do a quick hand shake before bringing their eyes back to the field.

I can't help but smile at them. They're best friends. It's cute.

So we have two outs, but we earned two more runs putting us back in the lead.

It's Peter.

"Come on Underoos!"

It was Yelena and Spencer this time.

He gives them a smile and a wave.

But unfortunately, it wasn't enough. The kid sent one directly to Thor.

We all start getting our gear to head out onto the field as Peter walks back in with his head hung low.

"Hey," Spencer places a hand on his shoulder convincing him to look up, "don't sweat it, Pete. It's a game. We're here to have fun. You did your best, that's all that matters."
