DEXTER'S POV
First day at Presidency had been eventful. I got into the football team, I registered for the music club, and I sorta-kinda squirmed my way into Avery's group of friends. I also got invited to the first party for the year. Mason, the present Footie captain, was having a 'Back-to-school' party at his place, and his parents were the coolest parents ever. Apparently, they thought it was better if he partied and got wasted in his own house than at a ready-to-raid club.
To think I had joined a club for Avery's sake, really. I could have walked up to their school band, and people would have scrammed to let me take over. I was, after all, Greenwood High's official band Sovereign Break-away's prized possession. I, however, for some unfathomable reason, decided to join the music club so that I could spend time with Avery. We weren't in the same class, even though our stream was the same. I'd bumped into her as she had run out of class, so I knew her class was right next to mine. I'd wanted to talk to her the whole day, but during lunch I had seen her at the Freshiteria, but she had been with her friends and they seemed pretty tight. I'd more or less stalked her friends Alex and Aldrin, hoping to God the whole day that she wasn't dating either of them. Turns out they dote on her like older brothers. I convinced them to get their whole gang to Mason's party so we could 'hang-out'. It was basically my excuse to spend more time with Avery. I was acting like I was whipped, but the truth is that I was curious more than anything else. Seeing her in the morning with her perfect uniform that showed off her legs, all I wanted to do was unearth all her secrets, and a lot of other things.
I got dressed for the party, just slipping on a tee and jeans and casually tousling my hair up. I looked hot anyway; I didn't even have to try. I walked to the window and saw that Avery's window was open and her curtains were pulled apart. I could see her bustling about, but she wasn't dressed to party yet. I wondered if she was planning on ditching the party.
"Oi, Avery!" I called out.
She looked up in confusion and seeing me she smiled slowly. Damn that smile!
"What's up, Dexter? Are you going to stalk me every time I leave my window open?" she asked.
"Well, we gotta stick to our profession, right?" I asked, smiling myself.
"So, what's the occasion? Any reason you're bothering me outside your scheduled timing?" she asked.
"You going to Mason's party?" I asked, trying to hide the fact that I was nervous. For some reason, this felt like asking her out on a date.
"Yeah, the whole gang is heading up there. Do you need a ride?" she asked.
"Yes, yeah, that's why I asked. I was wondering if Mr. Kumar could drive us there." I said, thankful for any excuse that could present itself.
"Cool, I'll be leaving in an hour with the girls, does that sound good to you?" she asked.
"Yeah, cool. Shout out for me when you're done, I'll be right here." I said.
"Well, I'm going to go get dressed, stalker." She said, winking at me, a teasing smile playing on her face.
"Dress short and give me some skin." I replied, giving her a smirk, though the image of that made me feel hot and bothered.
She stuck her tongue out at me and turned, drawing the curtains behind her.
I spent the next hour finishing the book I had started, though my mind kept wandering. I wanted to get closer to Avery. I had known her for hardly five days, and I was already tripping all over myself to be with her. I didn't want to scare her off by coming on too strong, but I would have to ask soon or I would die of need.
