The trip home was quiet. I had stopped crying a few minutes after we left the funeral home. Parker didn't play his music and he focused only on the road ahead of him.
"I'm sorry." I whispered. He looked at me then back at the road.
"For what?"
"For back there." I sniffed trying to hold off the tears. "For crying and soaking your shirt."
"Hey, it happens. You've just went through something really hard." He said squeezing my knee before putting his hand back on the wheel.
"I just feel so stupid. I'm so sorry." I broke down again. I pulled my knees up to my chest and buried my face. I felt the truck pull off to the side before I felt Parker's arms again.
"Callie, you just lost your mom. It's ok to cry. You're not stupid. You're just hurting right now. Just let it out." I cried some more before finally feeling numb. Parker watched me for a few minutes before pulling back onto the road and driving to my mother's house.
He waited until I was in the house before pulling out. I had a meeting with my mother's attorney to go through her will tomorrow. How was I going to handle that? I couldn't even handle seeing her body.
I walked into my mother's room and found her favorite blanket. It was battered and torn from the many years it had been used and I wrapped myself up in it in front of the TV.
Jamie came over later that night and forced me to eat something. She stayed until I fell asleep. I woke slightly at the feeling of being carried. I knew it was Parker but I was too tired to do or say anything. I just allowed myself to snuggle closer to the warmth he offered and drifted back to sleep.
I woke up with the sun shining in my eyes. I groaned and rolled over and snuggled into my bed. It was so soft and warm. I missed it. I opened my eyes again and thought about the yesterday's events. I remembered Parker holding me....twice.....and I remember Jamie coming over and falling asleep on the couch but I don't remember going to my bed.
I sighed and looked at the clock. It was ten in the morning and I had to meet the power of attorney at one. I stretched out and snuggled back into my bed. I heard someone knock on the back door then let themselves in. It had to be Jamie. Parker never knocked before walking in and Travis always knocked and waited for someone to get the door. Jamie would always warn by knocking before coming in.
I heard bags being set on the table before footsteps heading towards my room. I covered my head and pretended to be asleep. My door creaked open and I heard a sigh.
"I know you're awake. You breathe heavily when you're asleep." Jamie said. I groaned and pulled the covers up more.
"Let me sleep, I just want to sleep." I whined like a kid.
"No, I haven't seen you in months and I want to catch up. Now wake up lazy butt and get some food with me." Jamie pulled at my arm.
