REDEMPTION

The clock ticked past midnight, only fools would stay out in the open at dead of night. And even if Satoru trusted and knew that Ryuna can take good care of herself.. the feeling that something happened couldn't simply leave his mind. He got even less sleep than he thought he would.

And damn him for promising her he won't go after her. He was a man of his word.. atleast he tried to live up to that. Especially when it came to her since her trust seemed to break so easily despite the years they spent together.

He was sitting in the armchair, staring into the unpleasant darkness, trying not to think much, maybe even trying to fall asleep. All of that was useless when he knew she was out there, doing god knows what. He couldn't help it anymore as he stood up to his full height and started to pace around the room like a caged animal.

That was until the front doors creaked open and his ears perked up at the sound. He wasn't sure if he felt relief or worry at this point as he turned around the corner to see her. Say something to her, scold or greet.. anything.

But all of the words that he wanted to say died down on his tongue as he saw her. Clinging to the wall as she kicked off her shoes clumsily and shed her coat with a sniffle. The stench of alcohol didn't escape his nostrils. He grimaced involuntarily and closed the distance between them before she could take a step further.

She was unsteady on her feet, hell.. there was no wonder she was. He could already tell how much she drank just from looking at her. Cheeks flushed, eyes half lidded and her fingers curling around the fabric of his shirt for support. She wasn't in her right mind, was she?

"W-who..?"

Was all that escaped her lips and he couldn't help, but clench his jaw. He wasn't the emotional type, no. But seeing her like this.. reduced into such state made anger boil underneath his skin. And maybe it was just annoyance. If she would listen to him, none of this would happen.. would it? He couldn't stop thinking that way as he locked her chin between his fingers and made her look up.

"I wonder how did you get home when you can't even recognize who's in front of you.."

He whispered, letting out a chuckle to release some of the pent up emotions inside him. He met her gaze and he noticed a small cut on her lip. How did that happen? Even if he was curious to ask, she probably wouldn't have any idea either. And he knows that Suguru would never hit a girl like that. Let alone Ryuna.

He had that much faith in him even after all these years.

Ryuna hummed, clearly clueless until her golden eyes locked with his. He could see the realization as it hit her and her nostrils flared, lips parting in unease. Dizziness mixed with some other emotions he couldn't quiet place as she winced.
