Outpost Keating, outskirt of Firebase Phoenix

Remnant, April 13th, 2866 UNC (Less than a year before entry into Beacon).

For the next few weeks, Hunter 2-1 spent most of their time on search and destroy missions. For the rangers who have invaded other planets and taken fortresses? It was too easy.

Deploy to kill this King Taijitu swarm? Plasma rounds and a few rockets got it.

Pack of Boarbatusks that may be heading towards the northern coastal villages? Have Baseplate vector in a swarm of Hawk drones to clear them out.

A shit ton of Grimm heavies like Beringals, Deathstalkers, and Goliaths? Have Syd vector in a flight of Warthogs to deal with them. Soon enough, the Grimm had something else to fear.

So natural, the rangers were admittedly getting bored of search and destroy missions. Sydney was suffering the most. Not only did he not get to use his grenade launcher, the arc emitter, battledrone, or the new energy barrier he got. So we come to the present, with Sydney sitting in one of the bunk rooms looking over his gear.

The energy barrier, sometimes called hard light-barriers by allied forces, was a piece of 'protective' equipment that the Ztrakphor Star Kingdom used. It was a piece of impressive technology, able to form different objects made from energy. However it's most common form was like a hand held riot shield. It was developed during a time where the Ztrakphor would just board everyone's ships and needed an easy way to protect a squad from heavy energy weapon fire coming one direction. It was a reliable piece of equipment, but unfortunately something too expensive to produce by UN and Commonwealth standards.

Sydney sighed. He hated being bored. In many ways, he envied the hunters of Remnant, well the graduated ones. They were like the crusader corps, but with significantly less restrictions and could take on missions anywhere. Of course there were actually laws that prevented them from taking absolute power because an organization that could run free from the law was a terrible idea. Right?

In the Triangulum galaxy, a couple million light years away, three leaders of a galactic federation sneeze simultaneously.

"Hey LT. Foley wants the squad up. New op." Dunn said, poking his head through the door.

"Got it. Let me get my things." Syd responded. He got up and shouldered his weapons. This would probably be another search and destroy mission.

He was instantly proven wrong when he got to the command center, where he found Sgt Foley and a trio of Light Tactical Combat Vehicles (LTCVs) outside.

(LTCVs are simply bigger real life Oshkosh-JTLVs. Main armament if a rotary 50 caliber weapon system).

"Listen up. Looks like command has finally decided to get off their asses and give us a new mission. We're apparently going to help escort several science teams heading out of Firebase Phoenix." Foley said.

"Oh great, we're defending eggheads." Dunn groaned.

"No, that's up to the 1st regiment boys. We're are they're 'QRF'. In actuality, we're on a strike op." Foley explained.

That piqued Syd's interest. "Search and destroy sir?"

"Hunter 2 is being sent to recon this travel way. It's a primary trade route between Vacuo and Vale. Currently drones are showing a pack of Beringals and Boarbatusks plaguing the region. Hunters haven't been able to clear it yet. This pack is getting rather close to a number of villages so command has given orders to clear them out. Drones are busy clearing out the Grimm within a 12 kilometer radius so they can only spare enough for our patrol. Perhaps gives us some good P.R. Besides you boys want to use those fancy toys you received right?" Foley looked at the group.
