Chapter 12: Stun and Strike
Excerpt of the Book: the Hunters and the Soldiers,
If a person from the 21st century came to Remnant, they would have found it very confusing and bewildering as to how different it is. For someone from the 29th century and living in the UNS, we can honestly say we seen it all. Then again, we're the ones who run into weird and wacky things in space such as a dimensional monster stuck in a wormhole, the dancing plague (my dad found that hilarious as mom got inflicted by it), space whales, migrating forests, the Nivlac, the Unbidden, Ophidians, and much more. But magic? That did give us a pause until we found out that it was an evolved form of psionics.
Not much is known about the time before the Taidai bombed Remnant into the stone age even to this day. Most archives were lost during their collapse and during the joint UNAF-Commonwealth liberation and peacekeeping mission. It is known that people like Ozpin and Salem were much more common before a mass extinction happened and the Grimm were set loose. Then the eternal war happened between Oz and Salem.
Either way, Oz's 'magic' was heavily depleted for god knows why so when I did fight him at Beacon, well I had several advantages over him than he did over me. I was still a relative unknown at the time despite my many interactions with the locals before my introduction to Beacon. Have to say, if Oz kept up constant training like regular SF or my parents, then I doubt I had a chance in beating him.
But even magic can only take you so far, especially in Ozpin's depleted state. Who would have known that an aura-less grunt like myself actually stood up to an immortal like Ozpin. I think that my fight actually shook something up in the hunter's community.
But learn this. You can have a fancy cane that can open vaults or whatnot but a rifle always beats a cane. Especially if the rifle can fire projectiles at half a dozen thousand kilometres at full power.

Ozpin, secretly Ozma, had lived a long life. Well several but he had experienced a lot that Remnant had to throw at him. He had fought many enemies, Grimm or Human/Fanus.
Admittedly, he hadn't fought many military soldiers that much. And certainly not an Emerald Hunter. Still, Ozpin expected this fight to go down similarly to fighting an Atlasian Specialist.
So admittedly everyone in the room was slightly surprised that the moment the match started, Ozpin was smothered in a massive blue explosion and staggered backwards.
The Headmaster blinked, and looked down at his clothes, which had been covered with blue paint. Several students also yelped in surprise as blue paint splattered across their faces and clothes. It was a paint grenade, courtesy of Sydney's grenade launcher..
Ozpin barely had time to blink before he conjured up a magical bubble shield as Sydney's M5 rang out and half a dozen stun rounds smashed into the shield.
Sydney was also taken by surprise. Beacon records showed no mention of his semblance. Perhaps an energy manipulation one?
Another three rounds smashed into the shield. "Not a standard energy shield. Kinetic rounds would pass right through." Sydney muttered, continuing to fire until his magazine ran empty.
Sensing a chance, Ozpin's shield drops and he dashes forward with his cane raised. Raising his cane, Ozpin brought it down hard onto the Emerald Hunter.
