Enid's POV:
I stepped down the creaky stairs holding my combat boots. I slowly twisted the door handle, the door opening slowly. Stepping out onto the ice cold porch in my cotton socks. The cold seeping through the thin fabric cooling my feet. I shut the door, then sat on the stairs pulling my boots over my cooled socks. Rushing down the steps sprinting down the dirt road.
I crept into the forest making way to my special spot. I sat on the tree that hung off the edge, over the river. I looked down at the river accented with rocks . A twig snapped and I knew exactly who it was. I looked up and there Ashley stood.
"Hey ash!"
"Happy birthday Enid!" She smiled handing me a box with black wrapping paper.I slowly opened the gift making sure not to rip the paper. I pulled the box out flipping it over. I squealed and jumped up. It was the Swiss Army Knife I've wanted. Black with silver lining.
"Ash where'd you get this! It must've cost a fortune!" I squealed
"My dad gave it to me before he left. I never could touch it. You know why I'm untrusted with knifes." She said.
"Sorry ash I didn't mean to-"
"It's fine. That's the past."
"Not fully." I reminded her.She pulled her sleeves and left. I whipped out the knife and twisted it in my palm. I stood in the silence as she left with the leaves crunching under her feet. Slowly fading, all I could hear was the water and the wind. Soon enough a scream pierced the air.
