"fuck!" luke's expression of anger made ronan snap her head towards him. he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly before muttering a lame excuse for an apology. rolling her eyes playfully, ronan turned back to the fish she was trying to gut. they had recently taken refuge in a small shed a few miles off from a farm. luke had repeatedly suggested they go see if there was people on the farm, but his best friend shut him down. she wasn't willing to risk anyone else.

"i don't think you've gone five seconds without poking yourself." ronan joked. luke was currently trying to sew a hole that a walker ripped in his jacket. he luckily got away in one piece, the jacket, however, did not. they'd had a few close calls like that over the past few months when they were on their own, but a few weeks ago they met two others, a woman and a younger boy, during a walker infestation who agreed to help them. luke's first instinct was to shoot the woman, but he stopped when he noticed the young boy.

the two had hesistated when telling luke and ronan their names, and ronan couldn't blame them. they'd all heard stories of human survivors who had completely lost their humanity.

the woman, who was just a few years older than ronan, maybe twenty or twenty-one, was named georgia. she and ronan couldn't look more different. the younger girl had dark brown hair and eyes to match, whereas georgia had blue eyes and pale blond hair with clean-cut bangs. the boy, who they later found out was her little brother, was named adam. he doesn't talk much, but georgia told them that he's only eleven and his now-muteness is a shock response. ronan trusted her judgement, because she had also told them she was studying to be a nurse and demonstrated her first-aid skills.

the four of them had easily become allies, relying on eachother and willing to give help when needed. the two girls, while looking like polar opposites, were actually very similar when they got to know eachother. ronan liked georgia and hoped she wasn't some crazy psycho. plus, her nursing skills would definitely come in handy in a world like this.

"we're back!" georgia called, her combat boots clomping on the wooden floor. "there is definitely people on that farm. how many did you count again, adam?"

adam entered the room behind her, shrugging. georgia grinned down at him and ruffled his hair gently. "i think it was about fifteen?" she continued, answering her own question.

"well, thanks for checking it out." luke said, standing up and shrugging on his still-ripped jacket. "ronan over here is too chicken to do it herself." he teased.

the brunette flicked fish meat at him playfully, making him jump squeal slightly before blushing.

adam smiled lightly at the pair's antics and georgia started to unroll their sleeping bags. "we've gotta get a good nights sleep tonight tomorrow, we're checking out that farm."

"no. god, no. we've survived this long, you really want us to die now?" ronan spoke, rubbing her arms up and down her shoulders nervously.

luke placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "we'll be fine, ro. calm down. it's just a farmer and his family."

ronan rolled her eyes and lightly shrugged his hand off her shoulder. "fine. but if you get shot, i'm leaving you for dead."

"ha ha," luke spoke sarcastically.

the four laid down in their sleeping bags, but slept restlessly. ronan's eyes were closed, but her mind ran laps about all the things that could go wrong at that farm.
