it rained, the day her parents died.

ronan had always loved the rain. it was calming, in a sense. she doesn't love the rain anymore.

[FEBRUARY 7TH, 2010]
[FLASHBACK]

ronan daniels sat on her couch with her best friend, luke. the pair had known eachother since first grade, which was eternity in their eyes considering they had just graduated high school. beatrice watched in silence as the rain coated the window in a sheer coat of water.

"it's really coming down hard out there, huh?" luke asked, breaking the silence. ronan only nodded her head in response.

"penny for your thoughts?" luke asked again. "you seem like you're lost in another world right now."

the brunette furrowed her eyebrows. "i dont know. i just have a gut feeling something bad is going to happen."

luke leaned over, placing his head on her shoulder. "i think everyone has that feeling right now. that virus they're talking about on the news is insane. i'm sure the CDC will handle it, though."

the girl sighed. "i really hope so."

the two friends stayed in that position for hours, eventually falling asleep.

they awoke to the sound of screaming from outside.

ronan shot up from the couch, immediately running to the window. it was still raining. military looking videos lined the streets, along with hundreds of dead bodies. some lying on the ground, some walking around. citezens were running out of houses, hiding, screaming. either because they were being shot at by the men in uniforms, or because they were being attacked by the living dead.

ronan was sure she was hallucinating until she turned to look at luke and saw the pure disbelief on his face. he sees it too.

"my parents." were the only words she could get out before bolting to the door. she was about to run outside when her thoughts were drowned out by the sound of gunshots.

luke grabbed her wrist. "hide." the two ran to the coat closet on their left, luke slamming the door right before the sound of someone entering the house.

ronan slapped her hand over her mouth. she was hyperventilating now. what the fuck is happening? where are my parents? who are these people in the streets, in my house?

a man's voice echoed through the entryway. "the entry is clear, i'll check upstairs!" the loud clomping of his boots faded away as more and more men entered the house, searching through rooms and yelling things. beatrice could only pray for her parents safety.

she swore her heart stopped when she heard the same voice from before yelling, "i've got two in the upstairs bedroom. i'll take care of them."

ronan held her breath, luke wrapping his arms around her as they listened.

a feminine scream.

a man begging for mercy, begging to see his only daughter.
