While I'm taking a short break from Forward, I figured I'd get some small oneshots in.
One thing about Spencer and Olivia's children: they were stubborn like their parents. When told not to do something, they would give it a go anyway. Faith being the worst of the two. Spencer Jr. was still figuring out how far he could go and since he was trying to start crawling, he couldn't disobey much though he was learning a thing or two from his big sister.
"Can I have another cookie," Faith asked her mother who was busy typing away on her MacBook. She opted to work from home since Faith was sick and couldn't go to daycare for the day.
"I see you're getting an appetite again. You feeling better," Olivia looked over her MacBook at her daughter who was still in her pajamas while her curls were disheveled. Even while she was sick, she was the most adorable sight. Olivia patted the spot next to her, "You can come cuddle up next to me until your dad gets home. Want him to make your favorite soup? Or I can do it?"
"No, daddy can," Faith sniffed, climbing on the couch and pushing herself into Olivia's side. Of course she'd pick her father's cooking over her mother's.
"I'm getting better. Have some faith in me."
Faith giggled as her little fingers massaged her mother's arm before her eyes could no longer stay open. Olivia pressed a kiss to her forehead and continued working.
By time Spencer got home from the team's film session, Faith was still sleeping in Olivia's lap while she struggled to type. "She still has a fever," Olivia pouted, glancing down at the sick toddler. "But still managed to eat four cookies today."
"Maybe she's getting better," Spencer whispered, leaning over to kiss his wife's lips before kissing Faith's warm forehead. "Where's the other little one?"
"Napping. I've been watching him on the baby monitor. He's starting to sound congested too. I wonder if there's a virus going around the daycare," Olivia replied.
Spencer picked Faith up from the couch, "I'll take her so you can finish that."
Two hours later, Faith was up from her long nap and ready to wreak havoc on the house. While her little brother was in his bouncy swing, Faith played with her building blocks until she got bored and decided to ask the other parent for a cookie.
"Can I have a cookie, please," she asked Spencer who was finishing up emails from the day.
"I heard you've eaten four cookies today. I think that's enough," Spencer answered, pinching Faith's belly that was hanging out from under her shirt. It was obvious the top had gotten too small but it was one of Faith's favorite sets from Auntie Pat.
After the failed attempt, Faith snuck off to the kitchen to accomplish the mission herself. Scooting a chair over to the counter, she used all her strength to pull herself onto the chair, giving her better access to the countertop. The cookies were hidden in a cookie jar tucked away in the corner by the fridge. Faith crawled over to it and lifted the lid, instantly forgetting that the jar made noise when opened.
Cookie Thief, the jar screamed, startling the toddler and sending her crawling away and trying to reach the chair. She didn't move fast enough because her parents were already in the kitchen by time she swung her leg onto the chair.
"Faith Victoria James, what are you doing," Olivia crossed her arms over her chest, not amused by Faith's innocent grin before the waterworks started.
"Aw, did you hurt yourself," Spencer ran over and grabbed her as she clung onto his arms. "You can't be climbing on stuff. You hear me? I think she's sorry, Liv."
Olivia couldn't do anything but shake her head. Faith knew exactly who the tears worked on and she was using it to her advantage He didn't hear anything she was saying and was busy swaying back and forth as Faith's crying came to a stop. "You spoil her too much."
"Shh," Spencer shushed, ignoring Olivia staring back at them. "You don't complain when I spoil you." For the rest of the afternoon Faith stayed stuck under her father.
Two days later, Spencer woke Olivia up out of her sleep. "Baby, is my head hot?"
Half asleep, Olivia reached over and felt around until her hand landed on Spencer's forehead. Yep, he was running a fever. "Looks like all the snuggling with Faith got you sick."
Spencer groaned and rolled over, pushing himself closer to his wife who was sure to catch it next. She had been caring for two sick babies, now she could add her biggest baby to the list and this one would be the most dramatic of all.
