Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock... the clock ticked on...
Gbam! It was 1am.
Eve read to herself, "Transverse abdominus is located at the deepest part of the abdominal muscles; rectus abdominus, located at the anterior part of the body, below the stomach..."
She read on and on until she lifted her head and saw a dark human form shadow at the wall she was facing, waving at her. She stared fearfully at the human form shadow for a while, bent her head sideways which the shadow did the same, then she concluded in her thought that it was definitely her shadow, and looked away. In a jiffy, she looked up again and sighted the dark shadow of the chair which the dark human form shadow sat on. The chair was not present in her room but she could see its shadow. Eve opened her mouth agape in fright and turned her head back and forth, thinking if there was someone else in her room but she saw that there was definitely no one else but her.
"How can this be my shadow? Am on my bed, it's on a chair? Since when did shadows start changing seats? What is this?" Eve pondered.
She closed her note, and then, decided to lie down to see what position the shadow will take. As she lay down, the shadow did the same. Then suddenly, the strange chair's shadow was nowhere to be seen. Taking her attention off the unseen shadow of the chair, she felt relieved of the fear. Besides, the hair she plaited was as that of the human form shadow, so she smiled. Eve was no longer even willing to go back to reading the vast notes any longer; she slept off.
By 2am...It was like she was hearing sounds of drums in her sleep. Eve, the sleeping beauty, turned her body to the other side and continued her sleep, stretching every extremity of her body. The sound increased that she could no longer sleep but wake up. Lying on the bed, she opened her eyes and rumbled.
"C.A.Cs! C.A.Cs!! Eh?! Am very sure it is a C.A.C church. They would have slept their own sleep in the day, a good time for someone to sleep; they will be using drums to prevent it! And I told mum yesterday that i don't want to pack in this hostel. What now?"
While Eve tried to lie down again, the dark human form shadow moved swiftly and stood right in front of her. She could see the dark human form shadow attached to the wall. She hissed, thinking it's her shadow again but still looked with rapt attention.
"Why is it standing this time around? Why is the shadow's body shape masculine and where has the hair disappeared to?" Fear grasping her heart gradually.
Eve jumped out of her skin when she heard a mellifluous but strange voice.
The shadow is talking? Eve thought in her head.
"Hello Eve. The dark human form shadow said.
She moved back, squeezing herself at one corner of her room, on her bed. She screamed but it seemed no one heard.
"Who are you?! And how do you know my name?!"
"It's me, the shadow, Eve. I have come for you, as usual." The dark human form shadow stretched hand towards her.
"No, no! Take your hands. Get away from me!" Eve shouted. She tried calming down, "As usual? What nonsense are you talking about?!"
In tears, Eve stretched her hand, grabbing her Bible which she placed at one corner. The shadow began to laugh at eve's action. The laughter was so loud that when she touched her ears, they were bleeding. She could see her blood. She tried opening the Bible to a particular verse, opening and opening in tremble.
The dark human form shadow squatted in front of her, "You are looking through the scripture because of me? What do you want to do now? Let's see..."
The dark human form shadow stood and suddenly grew extremely tall.
Eve stood on her bed and while she searched through, a verse came to her memory, "Psalm 138:7, Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me....In the name of_"
"Don't you dare?! The dark human form shadow said in a very deep and scary tone.
Eve paused. Instantly, the Bible in her hand dropped off.Author's Note: Thanks for reading the first chapter of "Eve's Mentality!" I hope you enjoyed it and will continue reading
