"Right. So here we have five immediately conscious vampires." Alyssa was pacing. "Do immediately conscious zombies exist?"
"I've never met one." Nathan said. "That's not to say they don't exist."
"Well, we could think back..." Alyssa mumbled. "Did we meet any conscious zombies...?"
Everyone was silent for a few seconds as we thought. I remembered back to the day of the attacks. I remembered seeing zombies killing people mercilessly. That hardly seemed conscious to me.
"Oh!" Caitlyn exclaimed. "We did meet a conscious zombie!"
"Who?" Alyssa asked.
"Jackson!" Caitlyn grinned. It suddenly clicked in my mind. Jackson had still been at his shop when the attacks happened, not seeming affected at all. Definitely conscious.
"Wait," Alyssa interjected. "Didn't he say something along the lines of the attacks on his village?"
"Our town was the second target, though." I furrowed my eyebrows.
"That doesn't stop zombies from wandering to another town, but that doesn't make sense, because zombies are very territorial." Alyssa mumbled.
"Jackson, as in old-fashioned polite Jackson from the sports shop?" Felix asked.
"Yeah." Caitlyn nodded. "You know him?"
"Know him?" Felix scoffed. "He's my uncle. He lived in that weird settlement half a mile outside the town."
"Possibly, zombies walked there before reaching the main town. Entirely possible. The Creator liked to vary his destruction." Alyssa stopped pacing.
"Conscious zombies are all fine and dandy, but how are we going to convince people to help us?" Felix asked.
"We could pull together the conscious survivors." Alyssa said.
"Most likely, but the humans?" Nathan looked to Alyssa.
"I...I don't know." Alyssa confessed.
I thought to the reasons of why I wanted to be changed, back when I thought I had a choice. It was because I thought it was the only way, because I wanted to survive.
"We tell them." I said, breaking the silence.
"Tell them what?" Axel asked.
"We tell them that an army of vampires are trying to kill everyone alive. That they have two choices; they can be changed and help or stay human and die. We tell them the consequences, the fear. We tell them everything." I said.
"And if they don't agree?" Nathan asked.
"Then they can die. The Creator will come, and he will come in numbers." I said.
Nathan paused. "As terrible as that sounds, you're right."
"The only problem is that Mr Pravius expects me and Alyssa tomorrow." I sighed.
"You could run back and forwards." Felix shrugged.
"I suppose... It does add security to Gwen and Caitlyn." Alyssa nodded.
"Talking about those two," Axel said, tilting his head in their direction. "What's going on?"
"What's going on?" Nathan repeated, confused.
"Are they changing today, tomorrow, next week, month, year?"
"My birthday is next week." Caitlyn stated.
"And I'll be assuming you'll change then?" Axel asked.
Caitlyn looked to Gwen, who was deep in thought. "I guess."
