YEAR 845 - Shiganshina District

Finding food was fairly easy- some fruits and vegetables that they grew hadn't been destroyed in the attack, and they were still edible.

Finding water was also easy- there was a lake nearby that his father used to water his crops, but their family also used it for other things. Cooking, cleaning, bathing and the sorts. Thankfully, the river still flowed as normal. The titans hadn't damaged it yet.

He managed to recover some corn and tomatoes. They were a little dirty, flat, and raw, but he had to make do. He didn't know how to cook like his mother, but beggars can't be choosers after all.

However, his father taught him how to roast food. It was when they had gone into the woods together- he was helping his father to hunt. He also knew that his mother always emphasized the importance of proteins, so he took one of the broken pieces of the barn and used it as a makeshift spear. Killing fish with a spear wasn't easy- his reaction time wasn't the best- but after a few tries, he managed to snag one.

The hard part was avoiding the titans.

They wandered throughout Shiganshina, and Colt saw them every once in a while. He saw them less in the nighttime, but they came near any sort of light. It was hard to find materials like that, especially because there was a large volume of titans everywhere. To last the night, he had taken refuge in a small shelter he made from the rubble of the barn. Whenever the titans came, he'd hide inside it. A titan had almost discovered him once when he had been gathering food, but as he had run back to his shelter, he heard a roar. Then the titan walked away.

Interesting.

After a while of asking questions, I still had not gotten any answers. The titan remained in its kneeling position, silent except for the occasional utterance of 'Subject of Ymir.'

I attempted to escape again, but the titan looked at me. Its blue eyes, the ones that had been so majestic, the ones that were almost like a human's instead of the maniac eyes of other titans, grew cold. I stepped back out of instinct, and then-

YEAR 845 - Trost District

Clunk!

Porco groaned in pain as the boat shook violently, causing him to knock his head on the deck of the boat. Hard.

He must have fallen asleep while reading Marcel's journal. Not surprising, all that running around had tired him out.

"Are you okay?" A voice asked quietly from beside him, and Porco looked up to see a girl with dark hair staring at him.

Porco gulped at the question. He knew that the girl was just talking about his fall- what else could she be talking about?- but the fact that someone had asked resurfaced the feelings that he had tried to keep bottled up. How lonely he felt once his mom was gone, how scared he felt because he didn't know whether or not she was okay, and even if Colt was okay.

Colt, Colt Colt. It was like a mantra in his head, telling him to remember the other.

Like he was important.

Wait... what was he thinking about again?

Did that fall do something to him? It just hurt more when he tried to remember who he was going to think about, so he gave up.

Even though he felt the tears threatening to spill over again, he stopped them. The girl beside him could've gone through the same thing, but instead of wanting to cry like him, she was asking if he was okay.

"I'm fine," he finally said, righting himself and putting the book back in his pocket. He really didn't want her asking about it.

The girl seemed to notice the book, especially with the way her eyes darted to his pocket, but she didn't mention it. "Okay then."
