Near Castle Valent
May 13th
2000 HoursMe and Agent Keys were nearly at the castle when his watch started to beep.
"We need to hurry! They started!"
He picked up the pace, sprinting at full speed towards the elegant castle before us.
"Alright, we made it...!" I panted, relived to stop running.
"We're not done yet! Quick, scale the wall to the prince's room! It's right up there!" Agent Keys pointed to a window four stories up.
Why can't these things ever be easy...?
He threw a rappel up to the edge of the balcony and gave it a few tugs.
"There are enough loose bricks to make footholds, but if you ever fall, I'll catch you! Now go, go!" He ushered me up the wall.
With a stone of dread in my stomach, I grabbed the rope for dear life and scaled the brick wall.
Agent Keys was right. The loose bricks made perfect footholds.
Until one broke off.
I tried my best to hold back a scream as I scrambled to find another place to put my foot.
"To your left!" Agent Keys instructed.
I obeyed him and moved my foot to the left where a brick was waiting for me.
I sighed in relief and kept going.
Everything was going great until I got to the balcony.
I heard several shouts from the window.
Startled by the sudden noise, I lost my grip on the rope and frantically grabbed hold of the balcony edge.
My hands started to shake.
"No no no! Stop it! I'm almost there!" I muttered to myself.
When the shouts left, I clambered up to the balcony.
Panting, I looked down at the ground. Agent Keys was beaming and giving me two thumbs up.
Well, this is it... No more help... I'm on my own now...
I opened the window and stepped into the room.
It was much more luxurious than the hotel room.
In the middle of the room was a queen sized bed with various throw pillows scattered across it.
I immediately dashed for the closet and grabbed the prince's closest pajama set.
I shut the curtains and swiftly got undressed, tossing the dirty clothes into the closet drawers.
I heard someone approaching the door, and I scrambled to put the pajamas on.
Luckily, I was fast enough to have the set on when a castle guard opened the door.
"Your Royal Highness, is everything alright?" He inquired.
I cleared my throat, remembering my lessons.
"Yes, I am well. Thank you for your concern." I nodded my head at the guard courteously.
The castle guard bowed and shut the door.
I let out a breath a didn't know I was holding.
I went over to the mirror and looked at myself.
Man, I looked rough...
I brushed the scraps of stone and leaves out of my hair.
I looked around for the bathroom.
"Lucky! This guy has a private bathroom!"
I went over to the sink and washed the dirt off my face.
Now I looked more presentable. Or at least I hoped so...
I decided to take a walk around the castle to get familiar with my new surroundings.
Even though it was nighttime, many maids, butlers, and guards were up and active in the halls and rooms next to me.
"Wow... I wonder what this guy's life is like..."
"Excuse me, your Royal Highness?"
I nearly jumped out of my skin. I was so lost in thought that I didn't notice the maid behind me.
"Yes? What do you need?" I asked, trying to seem calm.
"Shouldn't you be getting to bed soon? I know I usually do not badger you about this, but your mother is throwing a ball tomorrow night, and she wants you well-rested." The maid bowed apologetically.
"Oh, thank you for your concern. I am just taking a quick walk to help me sleep." I explained.
"My apologies, sir. Thank you for your time." The maid made another quick bow and scurried off.
"That was close..." I sighed in relief.
"A ball, huh? Seems like the perfect opportunity for Murray to get in..." I walked back to my room.
I started making a loose game plan for that night until I fell asleep.
Let's hope Murray doesn't see through me...
