Life kinda buffered for a weeks after that. What Devin had sent me made me sick to my stomach. It was a video Alex had posted on Facebook saying how some people deserve to die for what they do to other people. She was crying and screaming about people taking her heart and shattering it, then throwing the broken shards in her face.
In the video you could see red marks on her wrists.
Cuts, bleeding.
Two days later, someone reported that there were ambulances at her house. No one had heard from or seen her since.Things were still dangerously tense between Nathan and Nick, and Nathan had a few meetings with the nurse and the guidance councilor. His parents came in for a few visits too. No one came to talk to me.
Nathan and I were closer than ever though. Expect it was a bit one sided. I always clung to his arm and never wanted to stop hugging him, even though he was becoming more and more distant. I still didn't know what was wrong. He still looked tired, and somewhat sick. His eyes had bags under them and he was always sleeping in class or had his head down. His hands were always cold, and his hood was never down. Something was wrong. I just didn't know what. I wasn't sure if he did either.
Everything seemed weird and... Edgy.
Alex had sent Nick after me, and now I couldn't help but watch my back. I was nervous, and anxious. Who knows what else Alex would try.I nearly jumped out of my seat when Candor tapped me on the shoulder.
"Whoa, tense." He said cooly. His headphones were down, and I could hear his music. Sounded like some type of dance dubstep. Low with a nice beat.
Candor was an old friend of mine, and a new friend of Nathan's, but mostly he hung out with Leo, Nathan's older brother.
He was one of those "music is our drug" kind of teens. He was 17, 11th grade. Messy, almost white, blonde hair that flopped over to one side. He was attractive, and somewhat alien looking. He was pale, but we are were. It was the middle of winter.
Candor was a pretty chill guy actually, he never acted like a stupid teenager would be expected to act. He was calm and collective, and had gorgeous pale green-blue eyes. He was DJ at all the dances and parties, and he was good. He wanted to make music when he was older, and no one doubted him. His work was amazing.
I'd known him as long as I'd gone to school, and he was always nice to me, so when I saw it was him who tapped my shoulder, I felt at ease."Oh, hey," I said, sighing. It was the first time I had relaxed all day. We were in elective, and I hadn't even see him behind me.
"Hey," he said, doing that head nod thing guys do, "are you okay?"
He was the first person who had actually asked in a long time.
"Yeah, yeah I'm good." I answered quietly. I wasn't sure if I meant it or not.
He nodded slowly.
"Alright. Well... in case you're not, I was wondering if you and Nate would be up to coming to Shannon's party tonight. I'm DJ-ing. It's gonna be lit. It could be just what you need." He said.
I noticed his eyes were kinda glossy. I think he was half baked?
In the middle of class.
Never mind, he was somewhat like a predictable teenager.
I laughed a little.
"Yeah, sure we'll be there."
He smiled "alright great, it's a date." He said as he propped his feet up on his desk, sliding his headphones back on. He grabbed his notebook and started writing. Music notes I was guessing.I smiled and turned back around to finish my work. Chem lab assessment. Fun.
I had only been working about 4 minutes, when I felt something clasp over my ears. I felt my head, and realized it was headphones. Before I could guess what had happened, obviously Candor, music started playing.
It was this slow, deep dubstep song. It had electric high notes here and there. But the beat was solid. It was good, really good.I took the headphones off. Candor looked at me, an eyebrow raised, expectantly.
"Well, what do you think? It's a new mix I've been working on..."
I blinked, amazed and dazed from the music. "Oh my god, did you make that? That's amazing!" I said. And I fully meant it. "Can I listen some more?"
He smiled, "That was just a sample. Now you'll have to come to the dance, just to hear the rest."
I made a face. "Grr! You always do this to me!" I said jokingly. I threw his beats back at him. He almost fell back of of his chair trying to catch them. I laughed and went back to my work.
I needed to hear the rest of that song.
